Five Years following the second wizarding war, the last place Severus S. Snape wanted to be was still stuck in the bowels of Wizarding England. Sadly, after he found himself at the mercy of an old rival that is precisely what happened. Now under the employ of his hated rival in an effort to save his dying old friend, he elects to enlist the help of unwitting Hermione Granger.

On Hermione Granger's 17th birthday, she is inducted into the Order of the Phoenix and must train in secret under the tutelage of Professor Snape. When she learns of her mentor's vow, she begs Dumbledore to release him from his duty. When Dumbledore refuses, she decides to find another way. After the destruction of Voldemort, Hermione is released from an Unbreakable Vow that she was bound to the summer after the Triwizard Tournament. Through the revelations she shares with Harry and others, a hidden history of the war is revealed.

There she begins private lessons with re-instated potions professor, Severus Snape, who seems to have changed a lot since the Battle of Hogwarts. Hermione and Harry have worked tirelessly to ensure a recovering Snape wins his freedom at his post-war Wizengamot hearing. In a shocking verdict, Snape's magic is put on the line. The last thing Severus remembers is overhearing a prophecy in a dingy, goat-scented pub.
