Takes place after CoHF. Alec and Magus have been together for a couple of years when Alec is appointed by the Clave to investigate the murder of a downworlder in Edinburgh.

Alec moves out so he can hide his true self more easily. So he can keep his secrets to himself and live a life that he always planned to. But what happens when he has a neighbor who lives differently then Alec is used to. What happens when they meet and his word suddenly turns upside down? Sequel to Payment. When Magnus told him "In nine or ten years, come find me and then we'll talk," he probably hadn't meant "Nearly get yourself killed by a Greater Demon so I have to heal you again." Alec was better at this when he was nine.
