![]() This is dedicated to the horrors of fanfiction. We've all seen them; fanfiction that isn't quite right. Not just horribly written, but that fanfiction that makes you scream and run for the brain bleach. we are mainly Tumblr based. See us at sociallyunacceptablefanfiction.tumblr.com How to tell if a fic is bad: This can apply to any fandom. 1: People are in love with no explanation, backstory, or anything. They've just developed these feelings without any evidence of them having done so canonically. 2: Even if the pairing is canon, they're just inexplicably in this happy, awesome relationship with no problems, having sex all the time. (Unless it's a oneshot, because that's pretty much the purpose of those.) 3: A character has randomly turned abusive 4: A character has randomly developed a drug addiction. 5: There's a flash forward to a random time that hasn't happened yet with no explanation, and shit's all different for no reason 6: There's an alt pairing with no context, and there's no background on how the alt pairing came to be, other than magical subtext that only you see because you're a fantard 7: You say in the author's note that you: "Came up with the idea in a chat with your friend Lulu who is also a huge Snamione fan, and it's just so awesome, and the plot bunnies wouldn't leave you alone!" 8: The title has the name of a flower in it, or it's some variation of dark secrets, forbidden love, [Insert Character's name here] misadventures, fuck quest, or something similar. 9: the summary says: "So-and-so has been in love with so-and-so for a long time, but has been too shy to say anything" or "HE NEEDS HER LIKE HE NEEDS AIR" 10: Characters that have established sexualities are randomly now gay/lesbian/bi for the purposes of the fic 11: Characters that are enemies are now lovers for no good reason 12: Your OC is dating the main character or they like each other 13: Your OC is important to the plot of the main series 14: Your OC changes the personality of a character specifically to make them date-able 15: Your OC is Japanese in a non-Japanese setting, or has a Japanese name, and isn't Japanese, watches anime, is a good artist, a good singer, and has long hair with [insert color here] highlights 16: Your summary says: "If I was in the [insert fandom here] universe" 17: Characters randomly commit suicide, or have new eating disorders that you threw in to make things "interesting" 18: Your OC has generic sadpast 19: You give an existing character random generic sadpast 20: Crossover 21: Comparing body parts to food, especially during sex scenes 22: Describing genitals in disgusting detail with words that don't fit and make things sound gross, such as honey, baby batter, cream, overflowing honey pot, sticky wetness, or goo 23: The author having no experience with sex, but using their experiences with other fanfiction to write sex scenes. It's how we get things like "his velvet covered steel rod pounded into her honey pot, and she moaned gloriously, thrusting her heaving globes toward his waiting mouth" or some such nonsense 24: The author says in their opening that: "I've never read the book/comic but I saw the movie, and this is what I think would happen with these characters" and doesn't want to accept critique on their characterizations 25: Characters who are lame in canon suddenly become sex gods 26: Giving a character a nickname that doesn't exist in canon, and sounds stupid 27: Having a character somehow morph into existence in real life 28: Writing fic about the children of a pairing that isn't canon, and having them all fall in love with eachother 29: When a fic is accompanied by shitty art 30: When a fic has it's own website. 31: Songfics 32: The fic is written like a play 33: There are references to the Author's actual interests in the fic 34: A character makes references to the author, or the author jumps in to say something. 35: A character who had no friends SUDDENLY HAS FRIENDS |
