(AU) Fate separated Anne and Gilbert a year ago when Anne was presumed dead in a train accident. Gilbert has tried his best to leave everything behind and start a fresh chapter with his son and new wife far away from Avonlea. He believes his life would never be the same, unaware of the fact that Anne is indeed alive and waiting to be found out.

After the death of Marilla, a broken Anne finds herself as the teacher at Four Winds, needing a new beginning. Gilbert has been the town's doctor since the death of his uncle, and finds himself now confronting his past and an Anne barely recognisable as the girl he once loved. Old feelings begin to resurface and the two of them must unravel the grief of the past to start again.

AU story that begins at the very end of Anne of Avonlea and imagines what might have happened if Anne had realized, at least in part, her feelings for Gilbert before they left for Redmond.
