![]() What's that saying , always a spectator, never a player? Yup, that's me...while my writing hand itch and twitch (sigh), there's just so much good fanfics to read that I'll never have the time to actually put up anything... No doubt, my old literary criticism professor from my alma mater is certain to look down his bifocals at my unseemly obessession with teenage vampires (or their AH versions in various guises and forms)... after he so devotedly filled my expensively educated head with all that high falutin dribble about Pope and Faulkner and Hemingway. Sorry old boys, I know you guys are good, but the ability to recognize quality isn't necessarily followed by real fondness. Besides, those old boys could never do what SM did; take me back to remember what it was like to experience the pangs of first love in high school. Twilight was a singular experience. It peeled back the skins that formed somewhere deep in my chest over the years. Skins of experience, knowledge, and rationality that had colored my views on love and caged in those long forgotten butterflies in my stomach. It's not a bad thing, mind you. These skins allowed me to look inward and experience love in ways that are measured and mature. But that spark of first love, in some ways, nothing can match its brilliance. And so I sighed, unabashedly, for Bella and Edward. Fondly remembering that I too had once felt as Bella did and that I had my own imperfect Edward for awhile. (Less hot, but sans undeadness. I hear he's paunchy now.) And though the love and emotions I feel now are too wise and rational to match the unfiltered exuberance I had felt at seventeen, it's good to remember. And because you can only read the books so many times, I come here to get my fix. |
