![]() Author has written 3 stories for Pokémon, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Star Wars, and Star Trek: 2009. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. Psalm 45:1 -O, For a Moose on Fire!- William Shakespeare, Henry V (sort of) Welcome one and all to a place of dazzling landscapes, of thrilling adventures and nerve-wracking battles, of breathtaking romance, fire-forged friendship, and diabolical villainy, of wittily turned phrases and shamelessly self-aggrandizing hyperbole….welcome, in short, to Maecenas’ FanFiction page. And what is this thing we call a Maecenas, you ask? Read on…. Maecenas: The Salient Facts -The first thing you should know is that I LOVE Italian food. Pizza has a special place in my heart, but I love anything else Italian as well. I have actually been to Italy in the past and plan to return, and in the meantime I obsessively patronize, rank, and chronicle the Italian eateries near where I live. I’ve considered the possibility that marinara sauce and garlic run in my veins rather than blood, but have drawn no definite conclusion on this point. -I joined this site in September 2009 (although a quick glance to the top of this page would tell you as much) and no matter when you’re reading this, I’m theoretically still active. It’s just that, well, I’m still working on the new chapter, or I’m traveling, or I’m sick, or I had something going on, or I am the greatest procrastinator documented in Western Civilization. Potentially, all of the above. But both of the stories I currently have going have distinct ending points planned out, and we’ll get there eventually! -Good reason for joining FanFiction.net no.1: Being a fan. I’m a zestful, enthusiastic geek who is a huge fan of Pokémon, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, the Edge Chronicles, the Pikmin games, Rick Riordan’s writings, anything by Brandon Mull or Diane Duane, and many other things. I’m slowly starting to become a Doctor Who fan as well, but I’m not quite there yet. -Good reason for joining FanFiction.net no.2: A love of writing. This is really more or less what I want to do with my life, as I consider my creative powers to be my greatest strength and extremely fun to use. Fanfiction is a great practice ground to hone my skills, but I don’t just consider my stories to be a glorified pencil sharpener or anything: they’re all extremely important, and I put large amounts of work and thought into new chapters. Which is why there aren’t any new chapters, but still. Constructive criticism is enormously useful to me, as is just knowing I have another reader; therefore, if you’ve read one of my stories, I’d be extremely grateful for a review. -My screen name, Maecenas, is from my Latin class and was originally the name of a Roman patron of literature who popularized the works of Virgil, although I just picked it out of the back of the book because it looked neat. However, "Maecenas," apparently no longer exclusively a proper noun, decided the 2009 National Spelling Bee--I've been a spelling bee champien in the past too. "Maecenas" is also the name of one of my Pokemon OC's, but he and I aren't necessarily meant to be the same person. -I'm an extensive world traveler, and I've been to about twenty states, Greece, Italy, Croatia, the Yukon, and the Bahamas. This past summer added a cruise to the Baltic area of Europe to the mix. - My favorite Pokemon include Swampert, Lucario, Venusaur, Walrein, Whiscash, Honchkrow, Abomasnow, and Blastoise, for various reasons. I'm now playing White Version, and have become obsessed with Garbodor. -I love reading anything (completely unlike every other member of this site, I have no doubt), but especially mystery, fantasy and adventure. I’m becoming more and more of a British Literature nut, particularly where Shakespeare is concerned. No matter what you write, odds are The Tempest is awesomer. Just saying. -A very proud member of my school newspaper. Journalism FTW! -Acting is a strong secondary interest of mine: I am quite the large ham on and off the stage. Favorite actors of mine include Peter Ustinov, Richard Griffiths, and others. I would recommend Griffiths' TV series, "Pie in the Sky," to ANYONE. I also do an Alan-Rickman-as-Severus-Snape impression that’s been hailed as uncanny in the past. -My personality in a few words: optimistic, enthusiastic, cerebral, adventurous, willing to hatch plans and take risks, a rather unnervingly tenuous grip on sanity (spork), a distinct lack of any kind of self-control (bad news for those who want me to finish chapters on time!). I use the word "zestful" to describe myself a lot. -A respectable amateur artist who got a digitizing tablet lately and is still making the transition to the world of digital art. Since quotes are in such vogue on FFN, I may as well deck this profile with a few of my own: -Egrets? I've had a few... -source unknown. -I’ve got a plan so cunning you could brush your teeth with it. –Someone’s signature on Smogon, original source unknown. -Well...that was fun. -my personal catchphrase. Said by Dionysus in The Titan’s Curse, as well. -That much is certain. -Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home -When life gives you lemons, make grape juice and leave life wondering how you did it. -well-known old saw -Nonsense! I've known plenty of girls who were wonderful in practically every way; their only fault was that they wouldn't go out with me. -h'm, SOMEONE said it. A quick run-through of my inner circle of fans/generally fantastic people: -Kyuuketsuki Fang. I first got hooked on FanFiction through Fang's excellent tournament story, Lilycove Tournament: And the Battle Begins. Fang is a great, supportive author whose writing often surpasses my own. She's currently working on Knight's Game, a delightful and suspense-laden story set in the Johto region's ancient past. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Fang also has a list of her inner circle/virtual family on her profile, and I'm mentioned on it, so I'm stealing the idea by way of returning the favor. -Gamings-Reminiscence and Friend X. These two are my most loyal fans on this site, always up for thoughtful discussion or a very constructive (yeah, I'm looking at you, X) review. Even when I abandon my writing due to real life for months at a time, they still stay in touch, and are just generally awesome like that. -Whatever-his-current-name-is KK. The author of OC Kane Yaiba and generally one awesome, hilarious person. Was once known as KK the Prophet, is now Abilityshipping King KK and counting. -SilentlySnowing, an extremely intelligent and personable author and creator of the all-time great OC Ferk Ramalo. -nellchan0013, author of Alexandria and Izzy de la Roche and faithful reviewer of my stories. Always has something interesting to say. Others include Mending the Sky, Super Special Awesome Attack, Fire Drastar, Legendary Fairy, Startix-Master of the NoLess, and etc. You all know who you are, stay amazing! My Current Two Stories: Jason Williams and the Olympians: The Rising Stars is a Percy Jackson and/or Heroes of Olympus fanfiction set in between The Lost Hero and The Son of Neptune (Lost Hero takes place in December, Rising Stars primarily in May, and Son of Neptune in June). It is currently being edited for two reasons: One, the first four chapters were, embarrassingly, never brought up to speed with the new series, and two, the very awesome Son of Neptune wounded my artistic pride and made me want to improve my whole story about tenfold. I'll try to get things going again ASAP, though, and you can help by weighing in on my Point-of-View poll at the top of the page...not that I'd beg, or anything! Poketopia: Gathering of the Heroes is a big, fun, epic expression of everything I love about the Pokemon series. It is set in the world of Pokemon Battle Revolution, and technically uses the games' rules (though I shamelessly pilfer the anime's battle style). It's more-or-less canon with the stories its major OC's debuted in, such as Lilycove Tournament or Final Game Tournament. Things are kicking into high gear here, and mysteries abound. There's even a plot! Sort of. That should be about it for now! Happy reading! Maecenas out. Oh, and by the way, I beta-read by request. Just sayin'. | |||||||
