![]() Author has written 2 stories for Pendragon, and Don't Starve. Hey! So, a bit about me. I'm a graduate from UC Davis. My interests are Soil Science, Literature, and Writing. It has now been a few years since I began writing fan fiction, and I'm pleased to say it's going alright! My favorite book series are, obviously, Pendragon, The Dresden Files, Harry Potter, Odd Thomas, and the Hannibal Lecter series - Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising. I love Stephen King and Neil Gaiman. I adore Good Omens. I recently read Holes, and it was a fast, fantastic story. Highly recommend it. One of my biggest passions is World of Warcraft. I've been playing for more than 11 years. I'm alliance, I always have been, but I love the horde as well. Saurfang for Warchief! One of my favorite authors on this site is Lovinghannibal, an amazing woman with an incredible aptitude for writing. Knowing how good her fan fiction is, I would love to see her publish a book. I also love Mythique, who writes excellent WoW fanfics. One in particular, The Watcher in the Keep series, really pulled at my heartstrings. The sequel, After All the Long Years, made me cry. And another woman who writes spectacularly is Laurielove. Her stuff is perfect when I'm in the mood for something a bit more raunchy. Also, Darkkdarling on Deviant Art is writing an excellent The Evil Within fanfic, which I'm was following raptly before it was abandoned. Also, before I go off on a tangent, I adore horror movies. Silent Hill, the Insidious trilogy, When a Stranger Calls. I've been a Supernatural fan since season two, and can't keep my hands off movies based off of Stephen King's works. IT? I saw it when I was 9, and have had nightmares about it for the last decade. The newest rendition of it was a masterpiece, and I'm absolutely dying to watch the sequel. Also, the Haunting of Hill House is spectacular, and I'm eagerly awaiting the Haunting of Bly Manor as I read The Turn of the Screw. Now, a bit about my writing. When I began writing I was under a good deal of stress, and my plethora of ideas was a result of all the time I spent daydreaming. Maladaptive Daydreaming is a defense mechanism that many people use, often unknowingly, to cope with stress. It is, and I quote, "an extensive fantasy activity that replaces human interaction and/or interferes with academic, interpersonal, or vocational functioning." In short, a person affected by maladaptive daydreaming spends so much time in their own head that it actually screws up their life. On the one hand, I was put on academic probation because I failed chemistry (which I passed the second time around!). On the other hand, I always had great ideas for the next chapter of my Pendragon fanfic, because I spent so much time daydreaming about it. Today, however, I have a far less stressful life. I'm a year out of college, working odd jobs here and there to keep up on my loans and pay my mom some rent while I look for a more stable job. Its been wonderful to have a whole year of no school, no series responsibilities; just free time to spent catching up on gaming, trying to hobbies, and writing my stories. I was able to finish my Pendragon fic in roughly one month (which sadly fell flat. It seems that all of my previous readers, Jay Foren included, either lost interest in the story or weren't impressed with the finish). Since then I've been working on two things: my Don't Starve fic, which I have been writing and updating faithfully, even when my focus isn't 100% on it; and an independent work, working title: The Orders of Meredeth. This is a fantasy work, fairly traditional, which involves knights, assassins, coups, alchemists, and a young woman with luck that could be considered remarkably good or remarkably bad, depending on how you look at it. Adventure, romance, tragedy, villains and heroes, monsters and mayhem - its been a ball writing it, and once I'm done with Don't Starve I intend to return to it and give it my all. I may have already, but I know how disappointing it is to have a story you've been following raptly abandoned so unceremoniously. For my new followers - Phoenix, Sparrow, Spooky, Nikki, Miuzaki, Arianna, and my handful of devoted guests - I fully intend to put in the effort and see the story to a close. I begin writing for myself; I finish for my readers. (In case anyone is wondering why I left AtMyWhimsy off of my list of followers, that's my mom. She doesn't count. She's awesome and I love her, but she doesn't count.) I love reading fan fiction. You - the writers and readers in this small corner of the internet known as FanFiction.net - have given me the confidence to write and post some of my own work. I have nothing but admiration for the people who take the time to create these humble works of art, and furthermore to put them out there and endure the risk of rejection and insult. Happily, I've found that places like this, where people come together to share their passions and ideas, are full of helpful and supportive individuals who are much more likely to share a word of praise than a cruel critique. It's an excellent place for writers to share their fledgling works without the fear of being shot down or booed out of the room. I have my mom to thank for my ability and inclination to write. She taught me to read and write, and she taught me to love to read and write, which I feel is just as important - if not more so. I would also like to extend my thanks to my sister, who supports me no matter what I do; her fiancée, Rynn, who is totally awesome; all of my favorite authors, whose great ideas have given me the foundation to shape my own; and finally, to my best friend, Abbie, a fellow aspiring writer. Though she may have moved away, she's been by my side my whole life. Lots of love, The Topaz Dragon |
