Author has written 1 story for Dragon Ball Z.
So, it has been ages since I last wrote (fan)fics, let alone publish anything. (The world has not missed a thing, trust me... ;) )
Mainly due to the fact I found other interests to release my energy and ideas into, as well as growing up in general and all that comes with it.
Not too long ago, I decided to check the site for updated and news stories and was happy to see there is still a fairly lively DBZ community. To be honest, I don't really know why, but it did. :) Discontinued awesome stories are a reader's nemesis. (So, at least I don't have to worry XD )
Touch me, I'm sick: Uugh, don't even get me started. I lost the original works (which actually had a fairly decent plot and less failed attempts at humor) but then I felt almost obliged to update and it went seriously downhill from Chapter 2. Reading it, I'm tremendously disappointed about the way it came out: unplotted, uncharacterized and desperately lacking any form of humor. I'm a little embarrassed, even though none of you know me...
BUT: I am not one to give up on anything and am putting my best effort into correcting my mistakes, revising and finishing this. Even though I have better stories of which the plot is not as difficult for me to write.
Thank you for your patience, for those who were kind enough to message me :)
This will probably not interest you at all *spoiler alert*
Checking back here after a while, I learned that one of the stories (in progress) I read and reviewed here has been turned into a book.
Though I felt after a few chapters that the plot had twisted in a way that all of the characters had become very difficult to sympathize with, even when intended, this writer in question has serious talent. Seeing what the actual book is about however, there are way too many similarities to the DBZ-counterparts of those characters and the story. (As in abilities, character descriptions and setting.)
First and foremostly, I sincerely wish this author nothing but success and well-being. Yet am tremendously disappointed in the fact that someone (who has actual writing talent!) would take advantage of the FF.net platform and the DBZ fandom like this. Had the story been changed into where it barely resembled the original characters and DBZ universe, it would have been admirable, seeing as fanfiction is hardly money-making material.
Even though writers (or author in this case) put a lot of effort in a good fanfic, other people's work should not be made money off of!
And if you inadvertedly do get that rare chance, make it so that the people who've read the original fic will know that the author put great effort into abandoning most references to the original series it was written about.
Which, in this case, was blatantly absent. Not following the storyline of a series and changing character's names is not nearly enough to avoid plagiarism.
Worst is, all of the loyal readers will now have to buy it to know the ending of the story, because the original fic has, of course, been deleted (quelle surprise!) and thus will not be updated. Can't help but finding this nasty.
Probably won't be a popular opinion, but most of us are here to gain honest opinions and tips about their writing skills (or the lack there-of), not popularity.
Criticism and even flames are not only accepted, but welcomed, since they help me see my errors and improove the little skill I have. :)
