Author has written 1 story for Criminal Minds.

Good storytelling involves the 5 W's: Who, What, When, Where and Why, not just dialogue.

This is my first fanfiction story and I have to say, it's been a dream. Literally. Roughly 90 percent of this story was from dreams, after watching marathons of Criminal Minds episodes. The rest is research and trying to stay true to the characters. I'm a stickler for details.

My late husband reminded me so much of Spencer Reid. Intelligent, well-read, awkward socially, and didn't have a lot of experience with the ladies. Once given a lot of love, he became more self-confident, despite being on the Autism spectrum. Don't get me wrong, there were days his quirks got on my nerves a bit, but I loved him from the first time I met him, until the day he died. No, wait, that's not true. He's been gone six years and I still love and miss him greatly. He's my one and only (Literally).

With that said, I used to think of his interests as an 8-track (for those of you under the age of 40, look it up on the internet). His knowledge of these topics were encyclopedic. BTW, this list is not in any order. If his interests were Psychology (like mine) and anything related to a degree in Criminal Justice, he would have made an awesome profiler.

Movies (mostly B&W Monster movies, Horror movies and a good many comedies. btw, he LOVED The Hangover) We used to watch a lot of movies together. Halloween is a big deal at our house, with Christmas a close second.

Music (50s to 60s). He could tell you the name of the band, when the song came out AND what song was on the flip side, for nearly all music from that decade. (Classical music is more my thing, along with many other genres, spanning the musical spectrum)

Star Trek, (and anything related)

Star Wars (Movies)

Marvel & DC (Movies and most other comic books)

Sex [actually that was almost always first on his mind, we made the sex life of the characters in my story seem tame by comparison.]

The Bible (he knew that book forwards and backwards and he was a devout Atheist. He used to drive the door-to-door bible bangers crazy, arguing passages from the bible, to the point they stopped knocking on our door. Seriously.)

NASA (anything space related)

Like I said, I miss him. I asked my daughters not to read this story, lest they find out how they were conceived. The hardest, most difficult part of love scenes (ok, sex scenes, we can be adults here) was figuring out how to describe it, without being too graphic (I've been known to show some restraint, on occasion). Like I started to say before, someone like Spencer (and my husband), being an obsessive personality, given lots of love, tend to gain self-worth, self-confidence, etc. (think of a tiger let out of their cage), and you get a tiger in the sack, or is that all men? IDK, I've only had one (Like I said, my hubby was my one and only).

I like the character of Susan Spencer. Some of her personality is based on myself, like her directness, some is not, but as a character, I really like her. I feel that's an important part of storytelling. Currently, I'm working on editing the rest of the chapters (98% finished, just working on the final editing), so hopefully in the coming weeks I'll be posting more chapters.

I have another idea, for a short story, based on what I told my daughter the final episode of CM (Season 15, episode 10, that has not aired yet, to date) would be, or what I thought it should be. My minds goes to very weird places.

Also, for the record, the whole JJ/Reid thing? No, I wish they hadn't gone 'there'. Let me be crystal clear on my stance. Not just no, but Oh, hell no. I wanted to smack the writers for having JJ do that, to our dear Spencer. And the 'Max'/ Rachel Leigh Cook story line? My first thought was 'They start a relationship because they have a favorite author in common?' WTF? I'd need more than just an author in common with a guy. The character of Dr. Spencer Reid deserves someone intelligent and come on, is it asking too much for her to be nice looking? (why are so many intelligent women on tv so plain and dowdy? Look at CBS's Big Bang Theory. NONE of the women were into anything nerdy, even Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler.) At least Bernadette was pretty, but still not into Comic-Con, or even comics. Nerd girls can be smart and pretty and love to go to Comic-Con. Seriously. Nerd Girls need love too!

Just for the record, the character of Susan Spencer came about late last year, while season 14 was still airing. I've been working on just editing this story, for the last three months (it keeps growing, now over 350 pages, so it's taking a while). Would I do this for a living? IDK. I work better without deadlines. Deadlines dash creativity.

Oh, and that 'shuddering' thing? That's real. I was 16 when I first met the man who, eight years later became my husband.

OK, jumping off my soap box now.

I hope you enjoy the story. If you do, let me know.

When Susan Met Spencer reviews
Dr. Spencer Reid got up earlier than he normally would; today he wanted to look his best. He made sure his suit jacket was free of lint, checked his tie, twice; hoping to make a good first impression on this Psychology professor. Today's meeting would be to discuss the guest lectures he hoped to conduct, during his required 30-day break from the BAU.
