What you need to know about Escape Land?
best escape game in london
When new escape rooms are opening in London and in the whole of UK every month, how do you decide where to play and which game to try? There are no trailers, that could give you a taster of what you will experience, you don't know anything about the actual games in the room except for maybe one or two photos, which are more like small teasers. You might find them interesting but won't tell much about the quality or the difficulty of the room.
The decision might be easier if a friend of yours already tried a place and liked it so much that recomends it. You can also turn to TripAdvisor and check out rankings. In november escape games were moved from the 'Attractions' tab onto the 'Activities' tab, where the listing is filled with touristic tours wich have an impossible number of 5* reviews. The competition is a lot tougher and escape room type of activities get lost in the long rows of such tours. You can click on Things to do and then London/Activities/Amusement to have a better look at companies offering puzzle and escape games. Here the list only consists of a hundred activities compared to the thousand on the full listing. Some of the escape room type of activities have better reviews than others.
But if you take a closer look you'll see that all of them have a very high number of positive reviews, with some less happy in the mix. Tripadvisor recommends to look at the reviews as a whole. Just because a few people had a bad experience somewhere, it doesn't mean that others need to avoid that place. Even 4* reviews are classed as 'very good', and people who leave those reviews generally recommend the venue. The majority of the players really enjoy themselves and have a good time. The ranking on tripadvisor can help to choose a game for yourself, but it's still not easy to find any real information about the rooms. Players (thankfully) are very careful not to spoil the fun for potential new visitors.
If you go through the long list of reviews you might find some that actually compares some escape games to others, some more experienced players did the courtesy and put things in perspective for us. To show why Escape Land is a good choice for an escape game in London, I'll quote from players who tried other rooms before, along from some others who had never played before:
\This is right up there with the best one's i've done (in Berlin and Budapest) and was far superior to any i've done in London or elsewhere in the UK. There was so much going on and a lot of creativity went into making the room. Despite having done escape rooms before it was still a very challenging room, and i reckon it would appeal to anyone. The owner was friendly and accomodating, highly recommended.\ 5* by supertrampspud
\Of the rooms I've played, this is definitely the best in terms of theme. The Steampunk angle was a fun context for the game, and they'd woven it well into the puzzles. The combination of the theme and the type of puzzles, definitely made me think of the Crystal Maze.\ 5* by Ken F
\The way the room is designed promotes cooperative play which makes escaping even more rewarding. \ 5* by PetrosMZ
The 3 owners of Hinthunt Paris visited us and some others of the newer rooms in London in November, and rewarded us with three 5* reviews on Tripadvisor, because they enjoyed our game the most:
\- extremely well designed game
- several unique enigmas / puzzles, never seen in previous escape games (done 40 to-date)
- perfectly well balanced hints
- really nice owner
All in all, one of the top European escape games\ 5* by Louis Kerve
