![]() Author has written 1 story for Star Wars. People forget that The Call of the Wild was an amazing book. Jai was only sixteen years old when he pursued his destiny and found himself chained to his own desire. As he stared up into the stars, he contemplated what was needed to become what he was, whatever that was. Imagine being stuck in a small remote Kaminoan orphanage for your entire life, only to realize that your desire to leave it ended up making you a slave. How would this affect you? What if you stared up into the stars, and all you thought about was the massive breadth of the galaxy and the bountiful adventures it could take you, only to realize a tiny metal ankle bracelet will keep you bounded for as long as your master wants? "I always considered what my destiny is. Or what it will be like, and where it will take me. I understand nothing more than the slaving cuff above my ankle, and what it makes me do. Fight. Kill. Survive. I understand nothing more than that, and that is my purpose." -Jai the Slave's thoughts as he stared up at the galaxy's glory, the stars. At some point one must consider if his own desire is what drove him. Or if his curiosity of the galaxy was shattered by this, and what Jai would be like if he were not a slave. Characters in Fanficiton, or any story for that matter usually have these conflicting purposes, or existential desires about who they are in the world or in their galaxy. The reason why I use Luke's Binary Sunset for my cover for Twin Destinies, is because his initial curiosity that launched the Star Wars Saga was so simple. Luke Skywalker was a nineteen year old farm boy who saw beyond the boredom of his farm and looked into the horizon. "Into the horizon..." Master Yoda, on where Luke was looking. This initial curiosity to discover more and find out who you are drove The Last Jedi too, and it's why its my cover image. The same thing that drove Eela and Jai to begin their destinies is the same thing that drove Luke's. But it's also important to note, do they exist because of their parent's same feelings? Did Rey and Kylo become so curious about what they knew about each other they came together for that one night one Yavin Four to see if they completed that curiosity? Did the same curious desire about their place in the galaxy and their own identity draw them towards each other? But desires evolve, change and conflict. Jai's desire changed from wanting to know more of the galaxy outside of the orphanage to fighting with all he had, unleashing all his rage to survive. My avatar profile used to be a Wolf related to my favorite book of all time, The Call of The Wild. Which details the character of Buck. And now its Jai, a boy who got nothing, but understood everything. Thanks for reading these thoughts I had, Im. |
