Kuu, an alchemist age 12, is an official state alchemist. She was orphaned when her father left right before she was born and her mother who died when she was 5. The doctors say it was probably jut trauma because Kuu can't remember anything before she was 5. Her first memory was of waking up in the snow, seeing blood all around her and on her, she screams as she sees her mother's torn apart body. People say it had to be alchemy that killed her. Kuu hates alchemy because of it, but being "cursed" as having amazing alchemic powers she joins the state to help keep others from being hurt or killed by it either. Kuu face many challenges, hardships, and dreadful memories as she relives her forgotten past and makes a new future. Kuu starts to believe she's going insane after she kills a man. She can't seem to handle her life as a state alchemist anymore. At one point in time she remembers her sister and how she had been killed right in front of her but right after remembering that she sees her sister's "ghost" which tells her that she will need to go on a journey to find the answers she seeks. If only Kuu knew what that meant.

First chapter summary:

Aura is the new girl at Seiya Academy. When she was younger she moved aroung a lot and she never made any friends. After school one day when her father was late picking her up she saw a girl surrounded by other girls. She went over to them and talked to the popular girl. That was when she said Aura was weird. Ever since then Aura made an outside character to help her reach the expectations everyone had of her. Aura's family always seemed dissapointed of her so she used her outside character even at home too. Along the way, she lost her true-self. One night when she's thinking about how she's going to act at her new school she sees a shooting star she wishes to be able to find her true self and to not be afraid to dissapoint everyone. The next day, September 30th, she attends school, but when she tries to act nice to everyone Saiya, the popular girl, tells her she's a weirdo. Aura keeps her head held high until one of the people who were supposed to clean the school after school was sick so she offered to do it. Then when she's heading back to the classroom she takes a walk and she overhears some students complaining about having to work with her and begging the sensei that they don't want to work with a cursed freak like her. They say she's cursed because not only is her birthday in the godless month (October) but she was also born on Friday the 13th. Aura wonders around aimlessly crying until she finds a bench. She falls asleep there. When Aura wakes up it's pitch black and she can hardly see. A boy walks towards her (he looks like Ikuto except he's almost 15) and he talks to her. After he leaves her Aura's hearts egg goes out of control and turns into an X-egg. That's when the guardians (King's chair- Sora, Queen's chair Sachiko, Jack's chair Yui, and Ace chair- Ami) try to get her egg to turn back into a regular hearts egg. When three X-eggs come out of her the guardians notice Toya as a fourth egg tries to leave Aura's heart. Sora gets the egg back into Aura's heart after Sachiko, the cold yet popular guardian, yells at Aura. Aura unconsiously, after the fourth egg was back inside her, puts her hands right below her heart and whispers 'unlock'. The humpty lock goes out of her chest and falls into her hands. Two of the three eggs go back inside her. The egg that stays out has a picture of a cresent moon and Sun connected inside of a large star. The clock hits midnight and Aura is transformed. She is transformed into Amulet- Dark Charm. She's holding a large golden staff (the staff is about to her neck and then the symbol on top makes the staff only a little bit shorter than her). A bunch of X-eggs come flying and she uses the move 'Easter Basket' and all the eggs can't move so she uses 'Dark Charm! Amulet Heart!' and all the eggs are purified. She then tells the guardians that this is not Aura's power right now and that this was her 'last form' and when they saw her in that form again that would mean that their journey would be almost over and that they would need Aura if they wanted to succeed in their mission, saying she was the only one who could lead them to the key.

In the end Sora remembers what the founding King of the Next Generation Guardians (much like the real founding king) said that the only Kuu could give them the embryo. He said that there were also only two Amulet users in the world right now and one of them would be Kuu. He said that the other was the one who would oppose the mission, but when the time came, she was the only one who could show them the way to Kuu. After Aura wakes up back on the bench, surrounded by all the guardians she sees the egg right beside her. She says that she wants to find her true self no matter how long it takes. She also thanks the guardians saying, "i'm not sure what exactly happened but I feel as though you all helped me out a lot. Arigato. I feel more confident now." Sachiko replies, as she has her head turned, that all Aura needed to do was believe. Sora asks her if she wants to join the guardians and remembering what the New Founding King said and what the eggs last form said, says she's the joker because they both called her the trump card. They ask her about her true self and she replies, "I don't know what my true-self is like all I know is I like to sing but I'm to shy to do it in front of people. That is when Yui takes her to the Guardians building a nice, and empty place. Aura runs up the stairs and at the ledge (holding onto the railing of course) sings a song. They all say she's amazing.

Outside is Saiya and her group and Saiya is frustrated that not only does Aura sit next to Sachiko but she's also in the guardians now. She swears that she will beat Aura one way or another. The last scene is in a dark room and there's a person sitting in a chair. He laughs and says, "in the end you might not want the journey to end and in the begining you might not want the journey to start but either way you will unlock her... but by then you might not want to unlock her... Kuu."
