![]() Author has written 25 stories for Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, and Firefly. Update, March 23, 2019. My priorities in writing have shifted a lot over the past couple years. I still enjoy writing fanfiction, but I don’t have as much time to write as I did when I was a student. Plus I’m also trying to put some real effort into my original writing this year, so I've tried to clarify my goals for my fanfiction and set them at a reasonable level. Right now, I have 97 chapters to be written in the outlines for Animagus at War, I Aim to Misbehave, and How to Fight a Dragon Army (compared with 399 chapters currently posted on this account). These three stories are pretty safe. I am willing to consider co-authors for them, but I’m fairly committed to finishing them up myself in the next two years. I currently have a co-author for The Wheel is Come Full Circle. They are having some difficulties at the moment, so it is on effective hiatus, but I still have plans to continue it. Meanwhile, the sequel to A Dramatic Reading, titled A Sensational Story, is being written by Srikanth1808. I am a beta reader for that story and am keeping abreast of updates there. Finally, The Stag and the Swan, The Mountains of the Moon, and The Philosopher's Red Herring are officially up for adoption, along with everything in Scribble Pad. Details are in the stories, but I didn't feel like I could do these ideas justice on my own. I would be happy to remain involved in these stories in a beta reader capacity, but anyone is free to take them over wholesale (although I would appreciate a PM so I can read them). I've been on the Harry Potter bandwagon since about when Goblet of Fire came out, but I wasn't inspired to take up fanfiction until I read Less Wrong's Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality and started exploring from there. (Okay, I did a little Star Trek years and years ago, but it was so bad that I don't even want to think about it.) I've been seriously working on original writing for many years, but I like the ready-made framework and low pressure of fanfiction as a way to write faster and improve my craft without having to worry about getting everything exactly right. I find it fascinating how new ideas are developed and propagated through the community, from fleshing out background characters (e.g. a lot of the Slytherins) to inventing whole new branches of magic (e.g. warding). This can cut both ways, as with the overused Evil!Dumbledore, Evil!Weasleys plots, but for the most part, it's amazing how it enriches the shared world of Potter fanon. On the other hand, many of the common tropes of fanfiction are overused and poorly thought out--things like wizard's oaths, marriage laws, character bashing, and worst of all, super!Harry, so I tend to draw on these only for parody. I try not to contradict the facts as stated in the books unless I'm specifically going AU. However, I'll use elements from the movies and from fanon liberally if they don't contradict the books, especially if they make more sense than JK Rowling's original--using Arithmancy for spellcrafting, for example. I also try not to go out of character, and I certainly try not to include anything story-breaking. On pairings, I'm pretty flexible. I care a lot more that a couple is well-written (and halfway plausible: I'm looking at you, Hermione/Snape) than about who is in it (although slash isn't my cup of tea). I will say I have a soft spot for Harry/Luna, though, and I highly recommend Arpad Hrunta's stories if you are interested in that. I'm not British, but I write my stories with my computer set to British English. I know it's a little inconsistent, so I apologize for any linguistic mistakes. If anyone wants to write a translation of any of my stories, please PM me and inform me where you plan to post it, and please post a link back to the English version if possible. Completed long-form stories. The Arithmancer-Verse: Hermione is a mathematical genius and becomes a brilliant spellcrafter. Explores Hermione's struggles with the stress of growing up and frequent brushes with death as she develops into a powerful witch. Features in-depth exploration of magic and a strong bond between Hermione and her parents. The Arithmancer covers Years 1-4, and was a nominee for the 2016 Fanatic Fanfics Multi-Fandom Awards. Lady Archimedes covers Years 5-7. And Annals of Arithmancy is a much shorter and more episodic post-war sequel. Ongoing long-form stories. One of them updates updates most weekends. The Animagus-Verse: Harry is a cat animagus who is raised by the Grangers as Hermione's brother. Features Harry with a strong support structure, Wizengamot politics, global wizarding politics, and characters acting rationally. The Accidental Animagus is complete, covering Years 1-4, and was featured on the Potter Fic Weekly podcast, in which I also gave an author interview. The World of The Accidental Animagus is an interlude showing snapshots of the larger magical world. Animagus at War is currently in 5th year with open war beginning. I Aim to Misbehave: a Harry Potter/Firefly crossover and tribute to nonjon's Browncoat, Green Eyes. Follows after No Power in the 'Verse with Harry arriving in the Verse via magitech and searching for the lost magical community whilst evading the Alliance. Epilogue-compliant. How to Fight a Dragon Army: branching out a little, this is a How to Train Your Dragon story in which Hiccup winds up in the future of 1429 when the Vikings rule half of Europe with an iron fist, and he is recruited to fight a dragon-riding Joan of Arc. Not The Hidden World-compliant. Thanks for reading. |
