Several years ago, I re-discovered 1968 – 1970 TV series, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I loved the show when it first aired and suspect that is where my attraction to men with beards came from. If you've seen Edward Mulhare as the Captain, can you blame me?

When I learned the series was available on YouTube, I immediately binge-watched it, from the first to the fiftieth episode, and then watched it again – and again – and again. One of my favorites is The Ghost of Christmas Past (TGOCP), but after viewing it several times, I knew this wonderful episode, and its premise, should have been explored more. It just seemed incomplete to me. Carolyn Muir and Daniel Gregg on the same physical plane at the same time? The possibilities are endless. Since finishing school, I hadn't written anything other than a Christmas newsletter every year, but this situation inspired me to go back to something I'd always loved to do.

My first FanFiction story, A Day in a Dream, was my attempt to correct the GAMM writer's/producer's oversight. When I was writing the way I thought the dream should have ended, I wanted to provide background on how the Captain and Mrs. Muir would have met in 1868, what their courtship would have been like, and what led up to the events of TGOCP. I started writing what I thought would make a nice chapter for that story, but the more I wrote, the more I realized it would be better suited as a standalone. When I finished A Day in a Dream, I immediately began the new story, and it quickly took on a life of its own.

Prequel to a Dream was going to cover the time frame from Daniel and Carolyn meeting, to the events of TGOCP – thus the title, but that didn’t happen. As the story grew longer, I realized it would have to be brought to an end, or it would go on forever. The Captain’s voyage to Europe seemed like a good place to have a break.

The plan now is to write a few much shorter stories, or vignettes, to finish the history of the Captain and Mrs. Muir up to the events of A Day in a Dream. Once that’s completed, we may just have to see what happens to the characters from that point on.
