![]() As a famous writer once said, we've all got a thousand awful stories in us - best to get them out now. Thus I'm here to lay my ideas on the table and hopefully stumble onto a good one in the midst of the unavoidable bad ones. Although I'm new to writing fanfiction, I've been reading it since fifth grade, and finally decided to take the plunge recently into writing. I'm nervous about it, but I know the only way to get better as a writer is to get feedback and constructive criticism for my writing, so here I am. Let the madness ensue. I'm sure I'll be cringing at all my current stuff in a few years, but as TV Tropes would say, it's about the journey. I know it's standard issue for writers to list what pairings they do and don't like here. I'm not going to. Even if I don't ship what you're writing, you have a right to write it. Even if your pairing and mine are supposed to be at odds or in a 'shipping war' against each other, I will never sink to the level of saying I'm right and you're wrong. These are fictional characters and this is supposed to be fun, not something to go to verbal warfare over. I respect all my fellow fanfiction writers and I think that no matter what we're talking about, a good writer can make it work, with enough effort. All fanfics are good in their own way and a reflection of the effort you put into it. So if you were hoping for a list of what I ship/what ships I don't like in certain fandoms, you're out of luck. Every time I've made that kind of list, I've read a good fic that changed the dislikes to likes until there was nothing left in the former category. People can always surprise you with their talent. Basically, I believe in treating everyone with respect, so if I get flamed, my response will likely be a non-response or a brief reply acknowledging any valid points you have made - because a 'flame' is sometimes nothing but truths writers don't want to hear. I understand fully my tastes are eclectic and not for everyone, and that's okay. I'm not asking you to be my biggest fan. I'm not saying you should praise me because I'm wonderful - because I'm not, and this isn't meant to boost my ego. That's not why I got into fanfic to start with. I want to improve as a writer through this, even if I fumble and write things I will be embarrassed exist later on. We're all fans, and most of us are writers; we should act towards one another in a spirit of camaraderie. All I desire as an author is honest feedback and mutual respect. Although we're not all adults here, that doesn't mean we can't act like it. Before I post anything, be it a review or a comment on the forums, I remind myself there is a human being on the other side of this internet connection reading this, and I don't say anything online I wouldn't say to your face. That's what I ask in return. Also, yes, I'm aware this account is old and dusty and disused. That's because real life got in the way after I made it, but now I'm ready to jump back into the fray.
