No-Powers Malec AU. The famous business tycoon Magnus Bane surprised everyone, a few years back, settling with a man just out of college. Now, happily married, the pair leaves Manhattan for a peaceful mountain town, owned mostly by him. But is Bane really the caring husband he'd like you to think, or are those deep bruises his husband sports token of an even deeper, darker secret?

This short story was inspired by the current crisis brewing between Alec and Magnus in season 3 of the Shadowhunters TV show. Disclaimer: The Mortal Instrument characters belong to Cassandra Clare, and I claim no ownership over the parts of this story belonging to the Shadowhunters TV producers and writers. The rest of it is all of my own creation.

Unfortunately for Wylan Van Eck, legally changing his last name would be asking for his father to kill him. On the bright side, renaming himself 'Wylan Eck' for the next couple of years in college was totally do-able. The laughter would fade eventually.

Magnus Bane is one of the most wanted criminals of his time. And he loves it. He's great at his job. The only thing standing in his way is a certain Detective Alexander Lightwood. And no matter how much fun flirting with him is, he's an obstacle Magnus has to eliminate.

Wylan Van Eck wakes up one morning and is invited by his father to meet some associates he has never met before, but recognizes from the strange dream of a heist at the Fjerdan Ice Court. Confused and suddenly questioning reality, Wylan must figure out what has happened. (Chapters 1-4 revised.) (A/N: Forgive me, I post very slowly.

The night after 3X5. (Extended scene) "I can't see the future." Magnus speaks the words into his hands. "I can't tell you that everything is going to be fine. I can't make you promises that I have no hope of keeping. I won't." Both men feel each word like a sharp point on the jugular. Each smarting in their own hopelessness. The words ringing truer than either would ever admit.

The war is over, and everyone just want to enjoy the peace while it lasts. Alec is happy, he's the head of the New York institute as he always dreamed, he's got Magnus by his side and he's more in love than ever. What could possibly go wrong? Well, quite a lot if you ask Maryse… Mostly Malec, because come on… With a little bit of other relationships thrown in. Bad, bad Maryse!

Throughout the ten years without his former lover, Alec Lightwood, the High Warlock of Brooklyn has trapped himself in isolation, every day holding on to the hope that he might see his lover again. So when an all too familiar face appears in front of his apartment on Alec's birthday, Magnus Bane begins his journey of reconciling with the missing piece of his heart - his home.

"Magnus, you have nothing to worry about…I want this." Whatever worries lurking in the darkness of Magnus's mind vanished completely, he could almost literally hear his self-control ripping in two. My version of what should have happened between 207/208 aka the missing Malec scene(s) - sex and angst cause I love it. Currently thinking this will be 2/3 shot.
