![]() Author has written 7 stories for Elder Scroll series, Sword Art Online/ソードアート・オンライン, Shokugeki no Soma/食戟のソーマ, Kingdom Hearts, and Misc. Books. About Me: My name is Jay, and I'm in my early twenties. I live in the American Southwest of the U.S and I have a real passion for creative writing. I finally worked up the courage to publish some of my ideas so hopefully someone will look at them and critique honestly. I hope to become a pro writer someday, though it'd be a pipedream to be a full-fledged author. Concerning writing style, I can't really compare it to anyone as for genre I don't really like to limit myself to one genre. I like all types of fiction writing, though my favorite is romance. I decided to start writing "fan fiction" because I hate how romance is protrayed in some of my favorite entertainment mediums nowadays. I find myself constantly being let down, or frustrated about how romance is played out. I find it difficult to find a good romantic story, especially harder when it's in a fantasy setting. So hopefully I can do better or give my rendition of romance in some way. Though I also like comedy as well. I watch a lot of anime, and movies and t.v; as well as play rpg's so I have a lot to draw inspiration from. Hopefully some of my creations can get a lot of good reviews so I can better myself as a writer and try to work out which styles work and which ones don't. So hopefully you guys like what I write, and if not, I can accept helpful criticism provided it's in good taste. Now I will list my favorites so people can see where I draw inspiration from. Favorites: Some of my favorite stories (of all time) Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z (up to cell saga), Mass Effect Trilogy, The Matrix, LOTR (not the hobbit), Star Wars (more so the old republic series over classic universe) Full Metal Alchemist, The Avatar Last Airbender, How To Train Your Dragon, Frozen, Highschool DxD (because "plot" [oppai dragon emperor for days]), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Letters to Iwojima, The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek (J.J Abrams version), (Books) Frankenstein, Dracula, Don Quixote, anything by Fydor Dostoevsky, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451 and a ridiculous amount of others. So some of my favorite characters: Sailor Moon, Vegeta, Commander Shepard (M/F), Morpheus, Sam Wisegamgee, Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Exile, Canderous Ordo, Alphonse Elric, May Chang, Sokka, Toph Beifong, Hiccup Toothless Astrid, Queen Elsa, Rias Gremory, Asuna Kirito Yui (SAO),Jen Yu, Xena, Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes Watson (Jude Law RDJ), Captain Kirk Bones, Frankenstein (Monster), Dracula (Bram Stoker version), Don Quixote. Just to name a few. So the reason I picked these stories, and there are many others I haven't listed, is because I think each of these stories is really well done (Highschool DxD) being the only oddity but I have personal reasons for liking it. I really like heroines, especially strong independent ones. I think it's awesome to see male heroes do what they do, but even better when females can be shown to be just as awesome. Not because it's sexist not too, but because it's refreshing and adds a new dynamic to story telling and breaks molds of archetype characters. Personally, my favorite heroine of all time is Mulan though. She is the definition of a hero, who acts only in the interest of doing the right thing. She wasn't a princess or royalty, and she wasn't doing it for love of another man. She did it solely because it was the right thing to do. Anyways, these are just a few of my favorites I have a bunch of others I could list but just so people can relate to why I write what I write. Final Thoughts: One of my biggest pet peeves in story writing is bad endings, or over use "deus ex machina." To me, every story hinges on the ending. You don't remember the beginning, and the middle is what keeps you interested but the ending is what seals the deal. Today, too often do I see in entertainment good stories with awful conclusions or terrible derailment of initial progress (mostly in the Anime and Manga community [but that's on another discussion]) in stories. When I come up with a story, I usually have the beginning and the end already laid out. I just need to fill in the middle, where my writers block comes in. But I always try to make sure the ending is satisfying and isn't a let down to what the build up was. Prime example: Mass Effect. It's one of my favorite storylines only because I literally got to connect with MC, if I read it as a story I would hate it. However, the ending isn't terrible and it makes sense, but so much more should have been added. It was kinda like just thrown together to have an end rather than "the end." So endings matter always! |
