AU. Jane and Frost are wounded in a shoot out and are taken to the hospital where they inevitably cross paths with Dr. Maura Isles. Two very different women, from two very different worlds, crossing many lines and blurring others. Hurt/Comfort, Humor, Romance.

AU: Maura Isles is a US medical officer in Afghanistan. While there, she briefly encounters a soldier in desperate need of medical attention. When Maura returns to Boston as a civilian again, the soldier is constantly on her mind, but she resigns herself to never seeing her again. But who does she bump into on Hero's Night, but the very woman on her mind, Lieutenant Jane Rizzoli?

With this story, I'm challenging myself to write the whole "realization and first kiss" thing without the use of role-playing, costumes, or major trauma. It may end up being really, really boring and require the intervention of an evil twin …

Dr. Isles is brought to BPD while Detective Rizzoli is on leave, mourning the death of her husband. On her return, Jane is barely a shadow of the charismatic, fun-loving person Maura had heard so much about. Everybody assumes they know why this is. Maura becomes the first to learn all the reasons why, and is the first one who truly gets Jane Rizzoli. *TEMPORARILY discontinued :(

Jane and Maura meet on vacation and have a casual, fun fling. Well, it was fun until Maura took that ME job in Boston...

Maura goes to a conference and meets the man of her dreams. It tears Jane apart, and she leaves to take a position in another city.
