Dís learns of her sons' deaths in battle. She is the last direct descendent of Durin, but her cousin Dáin rules in Erebor. Dís has no time to grieve, as the succession is being decided. Dwalin supports her, but the battle has left him deeply scarred and soon Dís starts to question his loyalty. She does what is best for her people. Her sons deaths have not been in vain.

Losing loved ones is the hardest thing of all, but there are ways to abate the grief, ways to let the sadness ebb away. Two-parter about loss in the line of Durin, with a bonus chapter featuring Bilbo and his acorn.
