Honestly, she was disappointed Barnes hadn't turned up. She'd never exchanged two words with the Sergeant—they communicated by awkward nods and eyebrow gestures—but at least he scrubbed up well and would have been here alone too. She could have ogled him from the bar, maybe even coaxed him into crushing her feet on the dance floor. It would make a nice step up in their interactions
