The late afternoon breeze stirring across the lake was a welcome relief as the warm afternoon sun inched its way towards the horizon. Amongst the lengthening shadows, dragonflies dipped and rose just above the water's surface, sending the smaller insects skittering out of their way. Georg breathed deeply, contentedly.

At year's end, a fragile kind of happiness has taken hold for the von Trapp family and their governess. But then Georg, facing an unwelcome change, acts rashly, and his mistake has life changing and potentially devastating consequences. With nothing left to lose, the Captain and Fraulein Maria must reevaluate the choices they've made. "Hope is a dangerous emotion."

The Anschluss and Nazi Party invade and Austria ceases to exist. All opposed to it are considered enemies to the Reich and therefore must be exterminated. But they didn't count on the will, faith and love of one group of people who are determined to escape and defy the evil empire - and become a family in the process.

It was the most important day in their lives. From the time the sun came up until the moon shone over the gazebo, here's the story of that day, told from Georg's and Maria's points of view, with lots of flashbacks sharing my take on how they fell in love. Well-worn territory, but I liked writing it and I hope you enjoy reading it. More chapters coming soon!
