I come here every now and then to distract myself from everyday life and indulge in stories of romance and adventure. I even wrote a short story once, on one of my favourite books, North and South. It's not a piece of art, but it's what I felt like writing down at the time. Though I am not a regular writer and the words don't always come so easily.

What I enjoy about Fanfiction.net so is the stories that really have the quality of being a continuation or alternative version of the original books. Stories that a being brought to live by their characters and not only by an exciting plot. And as this is the most difficult part, giving the characters a soul through their words and actions, I highly respect every author who manages to create or recreate such characters. Sometimes they turn out to be different than in the book and sometimes they are almost like their original. Whatever the result, a character thought through is what I find the best recipe for a good story. This is why I really cherish Jane Austens works, as well as the Brontë sisters und Elizabeth Gaskell, because they usually have such complex character in their novels, that are at the same time uniquely human.

Anyways, to all of you writers out there: I hope you never give up writing those fabulous stories that lighten rainy days! And to the readers: Hope you enjoy the little you find on this account! xx
