Adrian's Favorite Animes : Adrian's Favorite Games: Adrian's Favorite Books: Adrian's Favorite Couples: Adrian's Least Favorite Couples: Alright, now that you've found out a few of my likes and dislikes, I'm going to give a serious warning before I do this. Warning! Rant Ahead! Adrian's Mary-Sue and Original Character Rant: Compliments and Suggestions Welcome. Well, first let's begin with original characters (or OC as people refer.) Original characters, if my opinion, are a low form of mary-sue (scroll down for description of 'mary-sue.') Now, people who make original characters probably disagree. They may believe that their original character is *not* a mary-sue because she/he isn't perfect and doesn't swoon every character on sight. Though, mary-sues *do* change the world to fit them in it, right? Does or does not an original character bend the world to fit them in, much like a mary-sue. Yes? I do believe that was the answer. So, much like the mary-sue, they bend the world. Not only that, but normally they have a relationship with one of the canon characters, like the mary-sue. Now, I'm not really going to drabble on how original characters and mary-sues are so much alike yet different, so I'll just leave you with my original sentence. Original characters are a low form of mary-sue. Now for the mary-sue. A mary-sue is a perfect character with the perfect appearance, perfect personality, perfect relationships, and the perfect ability to do whatever the hell she likes. Pretty much god-modding. Now, I admit, not all mary-sues are little miss perfect, but they come pretty close. Normally, mary-sues are related to a canon character. (Like Harry Potter's younger/older/twin/whatever sibling. Or even Voldemort's long lost kid!) The story *has* to revolve around them and their perfectness, which is probablywhyI despise them so. Now that I've started myself down the endless path of mary-sues, another thing I want to add is the mary-sue that kills the mary-sue in a mary-sue bashing story. (Too many mary-sues in that sentence x.X) Right, well, I've read a few stories out there that are 'mary-sue bashing.' Pretty much, that's the only story I read with a mary-sue in it. Well, many authors added themselves to the story with the perfect weapons to kill the mary-sues and the perfect way to do it. Sounds like a mary-sue, huh? As I kept reading this story, the main 'mary-sue killer' was falling head-over-heels in love with one of the canon characters. The same thing happened to the canon character: fell head-over-heels in love with the 'mary-sue killer.' Another thing mary-sues do. So, pretty much, the authors hated mary-sues and ended up making themselves mary-sues at the same time. My point: there isn't one really, just that if you're going to make a mary-sue bashing story, don't make any original characters. Now my conclusion on original characters and mary-sues: I hate them. Original characters are just as bad as mary-sues. Thank you for reading. Stories that Adrian is working on: Thank you for reading Adrian's profile, now please read his stories. |
