![]() Hi, I'm Wolfeu and I love both reading and writing. Anyone from places where there is no 'u' in words such as 'favourite', or 'colour', I apologise, but I'm British and I'm not changing everything because you get annoyed. My favourite fandoms: -Harry Potter: I will say right now that I think the books are poorly written, but I still enjoy the possibilities with it in fanfiction. -Artemis Fowl: Although I have yet to come across a well-written fic with a pairing (or lack thereof) that I enjoy, I think that there is a lot of potential for this. -Percy Jackson and the Olympians: What can I really say? Many fics in this fandom are well written, and I enjoy the original series. -Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit: I love the original series, and whenever there is a well-written fanfiction, I will probably read it. The many flaws of Harry Potter: Flame on me all you like for this, but I think most can agree that this series is not the best. Here are some of the issues I have with it: -The Schooling System: There are no lessons about how to live after you move out from your parents. How are you expected to live if you have never been taught anything but how to turn a match into a needle, or a goblet into a bird? -Essay Logic: We have read the books. We know that they are set essays of lengths anywhere between 1 and 3 feet. Although one foot is not much longer than an A4 piece of paper, is there a set font size? How wide is the parchment? -Old-Fashioned: On the topic of parchment, why are they still using parchment and quills? Do they not know what a biro is, or paper even? Are muggleborns and anyone else growing up in the muggle world expected to learn to write with a quill before their first class? -Thestrals: I'm sure you've seen this all before, but Harry could first see the thestrals after Cedric's death. But what happened after Lily Potter (sure, he doesn't specifically remember anything other than the words spoken), Quirinus Quirrell (he may not have actually died), Frank Bryce (it may not count, it was in a vision)? Even if these three can be excused through the very unlikely explanations I have, what happened at the end of the year? I can easily research to find that yes, they did go back on the carriages at the end of the year. Why didn't he see them then? Most importantly to me, though, is the following passage from Chapter 32 of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: 'A swishing noise and a second voice, which screeched the words to the night: "Avada Kedavra!" A blast of green light blazed through Harry's eyelids, and he heard something heavy fall to the ground beside him. Cedric was lying spread-eagled on the ground beside him. He was dead'. According to the books then, Harry didn't actually see Cedric die, so to me the question is really 'Why did Harry see the thestrals in September 1995?' |
