![]() Author has written 1 story for Harry Potter. To any bored soul reading this I assume you have run out of things to read and whilst scraping the bottom of the barrel you ended up here, welcome. I like to read fan fiction and occasionally end up reading some that I enjoy more than the originals, mostly I just read cliche nonsense that makes me cringe but I always end up coming back for more. Dislikes There are few things I try to avoid when reading stories (and hopefully when writing). Time travel - I just hate the paradox. Not saying there aren't any well written time travel fics out there but I have yet to find one that I can just read without constantly having to question the whole premise of the story and it aggravates me. Afterlife - I feel like when people include things like the afterlife in stories (at least explicitly) it sort of ruins the power of death. When stories have afterlives or ghosts and the such I just can't help but feel like the characters lives don't really matter that much because once they die they just go hang out in spirit land waiting for everyone else. An example would be Harry potter, his parents sacrifice means so much less when you see their ghosts popping in for a visit, I almost feel like it would have just been better for Voldemort to finish the job, then Harry would be hanging with his family in the afterlife. And even if Voldemort does kill all the characters wont they just be hanging out together anyway? why does it matter if they die? I can sort of handle the afterlife if its rarely ever brought up and is vague enough that you're not sure what the rules of it are. Immortality - I don't like the no affects on intelligence kind of Immortal or if there is no limiting factor on intelligence. When you have something that allows people to live for centuries/millenniums it almost seems silly for someone with 800 years experience to ever lose to someone with 18 years experience in life. Also if anyone with a shred of intelligence and a modicum of motivation was to become immortal and lived for hundreds of years they would become an unstoppable force that would probably own half the world. Imagine what would happen if Einstein lived to 2000 the stuff he would come up with would be ridiculous. 'Willful' Characters - I put willful in quotes because there seems to be this idea that angry, unrepentant, brash, violent characters are willful and I don't really like that. A good example would be how people tend to write mother figures (Kushina/Lilly) or the Tsundere love interest as these seemingly bi polar lunatics who are ranting and raving one minute and then we are told how caring they are the next and I just have difficulty reconciling the two things. It also seems to be used as a sort of comedic device but it always falls flat for me and I just find the character annoying instead of whatever was intended. I'm not saying you can't have a character who gets angry from time to time but people tend to write these characters as if everyone loves them and just accepts their crazy anger as if is something great. Weak and Godlike Protagonists/Antagonists - I hate it when the protagonists only special quality seems to be getting lucky and they tell people their deepest problems the second they meet them to show how 'badass/tough' they are or as a way to unassumingly get sympathy for the character. Also to much reliance on other characters is annoying. I almost equally hate the godlike Protagonist who just blasts through everything and is 'super knowledgeable' but to add tension they will be really really stupid and somehow manage to fk things up. 'Hero' type personality - I absolutely hate it when the protagonist refuses to kill and acts as if it makes them great. The fact that killing makes you feel bad and goes against your morals is what makes it a heroic in an odd way. When Protagonists refuse to kill things and they escape and then we get some nonsense trying to justify why the character wont kill it makes me so mad, its such a lame plot device e.g Protagonist tracks down crafty known murderer who will kill again but in their decision to capture for no real reason other than killing is bad the murder gets away and kills more people and the hero finds this type of behavior good. Never checking if things are dead - It's such lame cliche when a supposedly smart/experienced character unwittingly forgets to finish an enemy of and they pop up later in the story or attacks when their back is turned or they aren't paying attention. I don't mind if it fits the character or scene but too often it doesn't. 'Cut it's head off and burn the body' Luck/Coincidence - Perhaps this lame quality is best represented by cannon Harry Potter. He always makes it through with the power of luck and Hermione and never seems to have an original idea himself. Luck/Coincidence isn't unusable I just can't stand it when it is overused to the point the characters discover a convenient get me out of trouble item all the time rather than the characters coming up with innovative ways to use their current tool set. Also when they just happen to do the right thing all the time. Stupid Protagonist - The sort of Happy go lucky characters who are blindingly stupid all the time (until angry) as a sort of constant comic relief, it gets old fast. I have no idea why I watch Naruto, Fairy tail and One Piece. Nobody dying - When people don't die despite the vast amount of close calls or when main characters just don't die it gets a little boring. I understand not killing off characters like you live in Westeros but when nobody important is dying the story is a bit to tame for me. Prophecy - It's such an annoying and pointless thing. Either its so vague it only makes sense after it happens or its obvious but will always come to pass. There is no point in resisting them as they just end up becoming self fulfilling prophecies or they don't come true and then it wasn't really a prophecy in the first place so it's just pointless and stupid either way. You hear the prophecy, it comes and nothing you do can change it. You don't hear the prophecy and it still happens, most pointless thing ever. Also seeing/accurately predicting the future is just as paradoxical as time travel. Lame antagonist(s) - A story is only as good as it's villain. Slash mpreg and all that weird stuff - I just don't like it. Likes I have to admit I have a rather narrow and boring scope of what kind of FF I will read. The Protagonist has to be a straight male and preferably around the age of 16-25 or at that age at some point of the story or I pretty much will not read. I like it with at least a little bit of romance mixed in, a lot of romance is fine if its well done but sappy sht gets lame fast. I like violence sex and gore although not necessarily all at the same time. Also realistic or logically consistent worlds are the best. As long as a story has these things and not my dislikes I will give it a go. Further story information Harry Potter - Broken magic I have changed a lot of things from cannon Harry Potter, most major changes i will try and explain at some point in the story but i don't want to say to much here in case i give away some of the mystery's. Some of the basic changes though are the addition of Mystical items, these are magical items that are seemingly randomly created by the magic of the world. There Mystical because the affects of the items are seemingly non replicatable and usually extremely powerful or complex and knowbody really knows how they are come to be. This includes things like the deathly hallows, which i changed a bit, and the Tri wizard cup and i will introduce many more such items into the story. I don't like Apparition and port keys they are such powerful magics that are basically world breaking if used correctly. So in this story they don't exist. Magical transport will be a little more important the floo will still exist and i plan to use stone henges for international transport. I also don't like the disillusion charm so laters to that. Invisibility seems a little to strong. Last thing that is maddly underused and way strong is warding. It seems kinda silly having wards that people can just cast that do things like make an area invisible or muffle sound or make a barrier. So i changed them wards still exist but they are tied in with enchanting (charming/ruining items) and you need to make a boundry with them so houses and schools can still have wards to a certain degree. |
