![]() Author has written 12 stories for Naruto, Warhammer, Ragnarok Online, Tales of Symphonia, Touhou Project, and Gantz. still to lazy to put up my profile... random thought: hats are the best and most important type of clothing. ever. If you think about it, almost anything can be indicated by a hat. A guy's hobbies, favorite sports team, favorite sport, or even favorite vacationing spot. Hats can also indicat a person's status, social or otherwise. A person with a large, jeweled hat is rich, and one with like a brown leather hat or no hat at all is probably not. A person with a bandage hat is injured, etc. In baseball, the batting team wears helmets while the catching team wears baseball caps. It can even indicate a person's job or rank. A security person wears a security hat, a foot soldier will wear a helmet while a general will wear a softer hat. A sniper's hat wll have foliage on it, and a regular soldier's hat would be bare or graffiti'ed. In video games, a knight would wear a helmet, or a swordsman or archer would wear a leather cap, etc. There are even specific hats for people. The have crowns for kings, or pope hats. Are there pope shoes or pope pants? No (at least, not specifically, the pope wears the same uniform as the rest of his clergy). ...yeah. hats are cool. I have just recently come to the realization that fire is possibly the best thing that has ever happened to mankind, and nay, the world itself. The reason being that almost (and I only say almost because I recognize that I haven't seen everything there is to see in this world yet) everything becomes better after having been treated with fire, this giving rise to the popular phrase, "Kill i' wiff faiah!!!" (e.g.: kill it with fire, the accent is added to denote hot-blooded feeling) A FEW THINGS THAT ARE BETTER AFTER HAVING BEEN KILLED WITH FIRE 1. Annoying people. After having been treated with flames of around 1000 degrees F, people aren't so annoying anymore, are they? 2. raw meats: fire cooks meat. meat becomes edible. enough said 3. most poisons and bacteria: fire makes poisons and bacteria less poisonous and...bacteria-ish? 4. Fire clears land space, have a forested land you want cleared? and abandoned building you don't want to spend money on demolishing? killit with fire. 5. Fire makes things more entertaining. A man juggling is kind of dumb. A man juggling things that are on FIRE is cool. 6. Fire is a more effective weapon than most. Bullets cost too much money. Why take out a horde of 50 (or so) enemies with maybe twice as many bullets when one or two gouts of flame can seal the deal? Especially when you get to watch the things run around screaming for a while after. THAT BEING SAID, GO AHEAD AND KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!! Shit that pisses me off: 1. When people put kanji on a random object. Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with this, but it's the way people do it that pisses me off. For example, when they have kanji on their character's clothes. Like Sanosuke (from RK), who wears the kanji for bad on the back of his jacket, it looks pretty cool. But then writers have this idea all the time now, putting things like 'kitsune' on Naruto's clothing among many others. But do these writer's actually know what these kanji are? Most likely not, or else they'd realize how stupid said kanji would look on said articles of clothing, weapons, buildings, etc. I've seen precious few (possible three out of all the fanfics that I've read) who actually know. I just think it reflects how little care goes into developing these ideas. I can imagine the thought process, 'hmmm...I want a kanji on his clothes, it's sure to look cool! But what should it be? I know, I'll make it the kanji for eye, cuz he's always watching you! It's so symbolic, it just shows how smart I am!!!' Blech. 2. Yaoi in general. I'm not really a homophobe or anything, and I realize it's possible that I'm just a stickler for storyline, but I really see no point in making boys who are obviously not gay, gay. It's just disgusting, there is no boy couple that looks cute, ever. I mean, I could stand it if the characters were expressly gay, but why twist perfectly straight characters that are probably destined to find some cute and well endowed girl somewhere into something else when they're perfectly fine the way they are? I see no point. I just see no point. 3. Stupid fanfiction. Such as: Self insertions, AIM shit, parodies on various television shows, crack, etc. Also, some high school fiction (only in anime/manga which are set in fantasy worlds that obviously do not have high schools). Some are really good, but then some are just pieces of crap with no plot and a bunch of cliches taken off of tv sitcoms. Seriously, this is the stuff of vapid and airheaded people who just write cuz they think it'll be fun. Now don't take me wrong, I realize that the whole point of fanfiction is to have fun, but all you're doing by posting this stuff is showcasing your lack of writing and thinking ability. These things tend to have no plot whatsoever, and this just carries over when they try to write serious fiction, I've seen many good plot ideas go to ruin because of far too numerous spelling and grammatical errors, along with ridiculous things just happening because the writer feels like it. Stuff like this is also marked by extremely short chapters, less than a page and 1000 words long. I don't think this deserve's its own number yet, but I dislike it when people randomly put japanese into their stories. Imagine reading a fanfic, it's all been in english for about half the chapter, but then somebody just up and goes, "Jya, shirabeteokimashou?" Not only does it sound incredibly random, it also breaks the flow of the story, in my opinion. I myself am guilty of this, though only minorly, in my opinion. I prefer to use japanese technique names, as they sound so much cooler. I also use honorifics such as san, sama, kun, sensei, etc because they sound more natural and less awkward than 'teacher' or Mr. Uzumaki in a world that should be using Japanese as its primary, and probably only, language. But what differentiates me from others is that I don't use hai instead of a simple yes or roger just to sound more japanese. Lastly, I realize that I have no ranting ability and that much of the above will make no sense to many of you, but I just wanted to recognize what pisses me off in fanfiction. If you agree with me, great, but if you don't, then it's enough for me to have you know that I personally disapprove. notes: 1) I've decided to stop the poll for 'the beauty of white eyes'. I've got another way for the story to go that I'm sure you'd all like. 2)I'm sorry for the wait. My computer crashed recently and I've had to go through this whole thing with ordering a new one and saving my hard drive...needless to say it took about a week. 3)putting all my other stories on hold until I'm where I want to be in The Beauty of White Eyes. 4)I recognize that all my summaries completely suck. If you think you can do better, put your summary in a review and I'll probably use yours A fewthings I want to do in my days of writing fanfiction: 1) write a fanfiction in which the dialogue is entirely in japanese 2) write a fanfiction in which the dialogue is entirely in l33t 3) make both of the above multichaptered 4) make the perfect (or at least really good) "intelligent crossover" in naruto. I've seen alot of crossovers there that have been just crap, or a lot of them that have had decent writing, but the way the crossover was achieved (like, some random convenient warp portal, or the writer just meshes the worlds together with no thought as to how they fit) very stupidly. And I've also seen alot of good fics, the goodpowerful naruto fic, the good romance fic, or even the good epic adventure fic. But I've never seen an awesome crossover fic. And so, in my quest to produce an awesome fic, I've decided to try and make the first (or one of the first) awesome Naruto crossover fics out there. So, anyone who reads this part of my profile, would you please take a look at any of my crossovers and review and tell me how you like my writing style, or how you hate my writing style, suggestions on how to improve my writing style, or even suggestions on new stories for the future? please? |
