Hullo! Name's Sasha. Twenty-something queer Canadian with a stubborn elderly cat, an Anthropology degree, a wall mural that I work on mainly at three a.m. when insomnia strikes, and a passion for the written word.

I’m a firm believer that writing is a cyclical process. It doesn’t have an exact start or end; it evolves constantly alongside the writer. Once, I wrote solely because I wanted to read, but now I write with different motives in mind and it’s entirely changed the way that I handle words.

Back in ‘08, I woke up one morning with the idea for a story, and when I searched FF to find none existed, I decided to write it for myself. This became The Student Exchange Program. As my first (currently only) fic on this site, it has a special place in my heart! When I hit a roadblock and left to focus on my health, I inevitably opened up a file of my old notes to realize that the way I thought about writing itself had changed. That was also the moment in which I realized that it wasn’t going to be easy to come back to TSEP: it was impossible to simply continue adding on chapters from where I'd left off without acknowledging the literal years of personal growth that had happened since and informed my creative process. (Also professional growth. Ironically I have spent the past couple years in a job where I coordinate international exchange students, so that will surely add to the logistics of this fic...) For that reason, I’ve put TSEP on an indefinite hiatus while I strip it down and rewrite.

I would never be where I am today with my writing if I hadn’t once been where I was as a brand-new writer, and it’s largely a nod to that history which has motivated me to stay on FanFiction. This old writing project, no matter how reticent, still feels very much alive for me. No guarantees on how long it will take, but if nothing else, rest assured I’ve every intention of being able to one day post for you my new version of it. One day.

But in the meantime towards that One day, I continue reading and writing, and the cycle continues. I sign into FanFiction periodically to peruse the various sections and leave reviews, and do some editing/beta-ing on the side. Additionally, I’m one of the admins at www.rmimagic.com, a Harry Potter-themed text roleplay. I’d strongly recommend it to anyone interested in expanding their writing skillset, even (and perhaps especially) if you haven’t done creative roleplay before, as it’s a pretty unique way to interact with other authors and learn about your own writing at the same time. Outside of the Internet, I write original fiction, and churn out a load of research papers as I aim to start my Masters soon.
