2014 Ficathon Entry. AU from 4x01. Three months after her shooting, Beckett is back - but Castle isn't. He's had enough and isn't following her anymore - and if she wants the happy ending then she's going to need to do the chasing, even if Castle is adamant he doesn't want her to. Now complete.

Castle and Beckett find themselves in a dark place, but they soon discover it's always darkest before the dawn. A 2014 Castle Ficathon entry based upon the following season 4 prompt (it's a small plot point that I'm running away with): "What if Castle didn't bring Jacinda to the crime scene in The Limey?"
