This is havenofmagicians, a member of Revolution X and a moderator of one of her communities, Revolution X: Haven of Magicians. The purpose in this community is to provide a comprehensive list of the truly exceptional Harry Potter fanfiction, thereby differentiating it from the well-written but weak and thoroughly cliche mediocre fiction and the just plain awful fiction found in such large quanities around this site. If you're interested in becoming staff or placing your story up for consideration, please private message me or email me. Stories that are found in Haven of Magicians must have at least most of the qualities listed below, although exceptions for the truly creative and original are made.

1. The writing must be good. This means grammar and punctuation. This includes, but is not limited to-

1a. Spelling. To post on FanFiction.Net, you must have a computer. If you have a computer, you must have Spellcheck. If you type on Notepad or some other hopelessly outdated word processor, FanFiction.Net spellchecks for you. There is no excuse for spelling "comfortable" "cunfertable."

1b. Grammar. There are pieces where disregard for grammar is necessary. That's fine. I'm talking about failing to capitalize names of your characters, here. Perfect grammar is not necessary, but showing me and my staff that you are at least making an effort, and presenting a piece that we can read through, is.

1c. A lack of other pet peeves. This means no Author's Notes in the middle of the story (AN: Like this!), no text language in the middle of a story unless the characters are texting, no overexaggerating words that DON'T need it, no changing the Point of View every half-second, using the word "flashback" to indicate flashbacks, et cetera. You get the idea.

2. Your story must be in-character. This speaks for itself. There's a very fine line between acting slightly out of character and being in-character. I don't care if you insist that your story's in-character, and I don't care if you whine that it's unfair my decision is the final one. Truth is, being included in the community isn't saying anything bad about your skills other than the fact that you need to improve. It's saying wonders about the stories in the actual community, but it's not saying that your story's ridiculous because it's not. Get over it.

3. No Mary-Sues. I'm a very harsh judge on Sue-ism. If it's an original character, it's very likely I won't put the story in. There are some very noticeable exceptions, but these are because the authors are brilliant enough to make the character work. Original love-interest characters are almost automatically scrapped.

4. Your story must make sense. I don't care if it takes me all day to unravel it, if it makes sense, that's a point up. If it doesn't - because you don't give a satisfactory explanation, or because you don't have the facility of language to convey the sense-making, that's too bad.

Haven of Magicians got its name as this community is supposed to be a "haven," of sorts, for serious readers and writers looking for something to occupy their time. Of course, as this segment of Revolution X specializes in Harry Potter, magicians are a bit common in the stories.
