If you read many of my stories, you'll soon realize that I have a tendency to take the side of the villain. I just so happen to think that villains are so much more complex than heroes. Antagonists aren't evil on purpose - they don't set out to be evil. Take Adolf Hitler for example. He was worse than amoeba excrement, a vile excuse for a carbon-based life form, disgusting in every way, shape, and form, and yet he thought he was doing the world a service by eradicating 'undesirables'.

Heroes simply clean up messes left behind by the villains. They're the metaphorical custodians of the fictional world, mopping up bloodstains and sweeping tyrannical dictators under the rug. They're predictable: They get up, have an adventure, get into a sticky mess, pull through, save the world/city/town/neighborhood/etc., and get the girl/guy. In every story, movie, or game you will ever read/see/play in your entire existence, it's all just variations on that theme. People will disembowel the writer if the writer so chooses to kill off/maim/otherwise disable main protagonists without bringing them back to life. It gets boring after a while, scoping out the same plot over and over and over again.

On the contrary, villains have the ambition and guts to stand up, do what they want (no matter how horrible), and tell the rest of the world where they can stick it. They don't take orders from a higher power, such as a monarch, president, mother, teacher, etc. They don't let morals get in the way, don't care what the rest of the population thinks of them, and they always have the coolest henchpeople. Antagonists can die in a grisly fashion, escape, or go to jail. Some even turn into protagonists. They're fun to play with because no one tears the writer's head off when they die, get their just desserts, or tag along with the good guys. As an added bonus, they've almost always got cool costumes or facial scars. Example: Xemnas of Organization XIII (Video game: Kingdom Hearts II). No morals, a whole mess of ambition and gumption, didn't care what the rest of the worlds thought of his plan, and some seriously kick-ass cronies. AND a freaking awesome coat. What more could you possibly want in a main antagonist?

I'll be changing this as time goes on, posting different rants, making fun of various bad movies, and probably reviewing some books. Ciao!
