Post-ANH AU. Vader redemption. Soon after the destruction of the Death Star, the paths of father and son cross again. Two years after joining the Rebellion Luke is shot down during a mission and ejects from his X-Wing in enemy territory. The events that follow lead him, painfully, to his first meeting with Vader and beyond. A father/son story although it might not seem like it at first.

Anakin survives ROTJ, and he and Luke return to Tatooine. It's a homecoming in more ways than one.

Tatooine wasn't home for her in the way it was for Luke. But for Leia, who would never go home again, Tatooine – at least, this part of Tatooine – was strangely comforting.

Shmi tends her injured son and shares the old, old story of how Ekkreth the trickster escaped slavery. And Anakin will remember.
