Seattle landmarks and monuments may mean various things to various generations, but everybody will agree that they mean a lot both in our individual remembrances and to our collective identity. I started LandmarksInSeattle.com to show off the city's beloved landmarks from a much less commercial point of view, and all on one site that could let guests take a virtual tour of all that the city has to offer. Every person has heard about the Space Needle, but not every person knows that the current Seattle was built over the ruins of the Great Seattle Fire of 1889. In 1954 Bill Speidel had the idea to save the decaying Pioneer Square and uncovered rumors about the underground Seattle. Eventually he uncovered underground Seattle as well, and underground tours of what was once a 25 square block of old Seattle can be taken. If it hadn't been for Spiedel plus some other Seattle residents getting concerned with rediscovering Seattle's history, it might have disappeared forever. Seattle isn't just about the attractions in the metropolitan part of the city either. At LandmarksInSeattle.com, I've endeavored to give equal, if not much more, praise for the incredible natural beauty of the Seattle region. Sure you'll be able to see the wilderness from the Space Needle or the Smith Tower Observation Deck, but nothing beats getting out into it. My favorite areas have always been on the water with Washington Lake and Puget Sound being at the top of my list. The serenity and cool beauty of the Seattle landscape just can't be beat. Seattle now is a mix of the old and new, with the old being appreciated, revered and in the role of a continual reminder that often truth is stranger than fiction; usually times it really is just as intriguing. At LandmarksInSeattle.com all the photos, videos and articles have been collected from locals, travelers and individuals thinking about understanding all of the excellent landmarks that Seattle has to supply. It's my hope as webmaster that after visiting LandmarksInSeattle.com, you may be tempted to become one of them. My websites: Seattle Landmarks |
