We have a new number.” Finch raises his head, breaks the quiet atmosphere, looks at Root and says “It is a doctor, the machine asks you to save him.” “Me? Oh, stop kidding me. What I only care about is Shaw, you should know that.” Root shrugs her shoulders and still fixes eyes on the computer screen; she even doesn’t raise her head. “The machine asks you.” Finch explains. “Damn it. It has noting to do with me whether the doctor is alive or not. Why should I care?” Root shouts very loudly and hits the keyboard hardly, as if wants to scrap it. “Ok, it is your business.” Finch shakes his head and turns his back. “But may be the machine wants to convey something about Shaw through the doctor.” Finch says it in a low voice. “You know, the machine cannot give us the information directly.” After Finch says, the whole parlor falls silent; it is so quiet that can hear the sound of one pin drops. “Ok, I accept it.” Seconds later, Root purses her lips and says. Then she goes to her bedroom and starts packing, she puts AK-47, medicines and a mobile phone in her bag. Soon, she pushes the door and goes out in hurry, even forgets to pick up the key. “I know she will accept it,” Finch says after he cannot hear Root’s footsteps. He takes over the chocolate cookies from Reese, “but I’m not sure what she can find from the doctor.” “Don’t be worry, Root can handle it.” Reese says with confidence. Root stands at the crossroad and looks around. Cars pass her and wind blows her long hair, her eyes glazes just like a normal people who lost her lover. She is out of the wits looking at the familiar Streets, buildings, even the sky. She bits her finger, and stomps. “This is not my world.” Root begins to run very fast. “Ok, you must calm down and follow instructions from the machine, Root. You must do it, only you can save Shaw.” Root thinks, and grabs her fists tightly. She forces herself to calm down and listen to the machine. She finds a loft where the doctor stays following the machine’s instruction. This small loft is so unimpressive that passing people won’t notice it. Root enters the loft and looks around. The Old ceiling is like the mouth of huge monster, grey wall, broken furniture and steeped floor, Root frowns obviously. An old man curled up in the corner, his arms hold around his shoulder tightly. Root walks directly to him and squats. “Listen to me, I have no time to tell you the specific reason and process, the only thing I do is to help you and save you. Now, I will stay with you until you are safe.” Root says quickly. “Ok…Ok…” The doctor is too nervous to say a complete sentence. He looks so frightened, his grey beards are vibrating. “Sure, but don’t be too nervous.” Root says to the doctor and looks around his loft tries to find some hints about Shaw. A small vase—not a hint, a strange painting of a bared women—not a hint, the broken sofa—oh no, Root feels she is going crazy and becoming sensitive to everything even ridiculous things. “Thank you, miss.” The doctor looks not as tense as the beginning. “Miss, I will collect cases. So, you can stay here for minutes or you can follow me. ” The doctor says and points the other room. “Cases? May be I can find something from these cases.” Root thinks deeply, she touches her hair and nods head. “Ok, I will follow you.” She says. The doctor takes out several big folders and begins to work, Root looks around tries to find some useful hints. She pretends to rotate her neck left and right and back again tries to look at these cases. Suddenly, she finds a familiar name on the case. “It’s Shaw! What does it mean? She is still alive?” Root’s brain spin rapidly, and she grips and shakes doctor’s shoulders. “Did you cure her before? What’s wrong with her? She is still alive, right? ” Root stares her eyes at doctor and wants to get Shaw’s whereabouts. “Please calm down. She is safety right now although she was in a coma because of excessive loss of blood when she was sent here.” The doctor is so afraid that Root will kill him that he tells the truth with a hoarse voice. “Please, that is all I know. Please don’t kill me!” “Really? She is safety. Thank you God! Thank you. Shaw, you are alive!” Root’s lip is trembling and she is so surprised that she covers her mouth. Root is a wise and grace woman at anytime, but now she just likes a child who gets her lost and found toys. “But she didn’t tell me where she goes and who is she.” The doctor explains carefully. “Nothing? Even a hint?” “Oh, you remind me she left this photo because she left in hurry.” The doctor turns back and opens a drawer to take a photo which is dogeared with little bloodstain and several numbers.
