Hello there. I don't know why you're even reading this. I am deranged. I am a reviewer. Hence the name. I have been reading fanfiction for about 4 years now (under different accounts). I have read multiple genres with multiple (and not so multiple) plots. If you're reading this, I have probably reviewed one of your stories. If you recieved great reviews, well done. That means you've really deserved it. If you've recieved a not-so-great review from me, then you should know that first, I don't hate you; secondly, I love giving reviews that helps out the author. Meaning, I love writing constructive criticism. Also you should check out the tips, as well as my own preferences, down at the bottom, or keep reading this nonsense I am currently writing. Now for the fun part. Well, I guess that now that you're here I should tell you about myself. I love giving reviews (No Duh!) Because of that, I am taking review requests. If you send me an email or message asking for a review of one of your stories, I will probably check it out and review it. WAIT!! Before you click my email button or message button or whatever, please know I have my limitations. First of all, I go to a really hardworking school that give out homework that averages about 4 hours. No joke. So if I don't reply soon, I am increadibly busy. Secondly, please remember that I try to give constructive criticism. So if you're looking for fluff reviews, you may or may not get it. Please refer to the bottom of this page to read some tips regarding writing. There are also some things I don't review or even read at all. Please don't ask me to review yaoi/yuri. Now don't get the wrong idea. I don't hate people with the different sexual preferences. In fact, I respect a lot of them. It's just I really can't bring myself to read them. No more questions! I don't really review or read too much drabbles either. If your story has you as the main character, I don't think I can read that. Also please scroll down and read the article on Mary Sues. I also require onse shots to be at least 1000 words long. I also try to stay away from vampire, "lord of the dead" angsty horror fics unless you can convince me there is something more to the plot that meets the eye. Sorry for being so picky, but those are my conditions. A bit about myself, not that anyone wants to know: Gender: Female Race: Asian Age: 1-100 Location: Here, there, everywhere! Favorite Fandoms: (these are my favorite genres for FANFICTION) Anime- Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha, Card Captor Sakura, DBZ Non-Anime- Avatar the Last Airbender, Mulan Gaming- Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, X, X2; Tekken, Kingdom Hearts, Movies- Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean (that's usually it for movies) I am not limited to these genres if you're debating whether to send me fanfictions for review or not. As long as the plot is captivating, then by all means send away! TIPS FOR WRITING A GREAT FANFIC These are usually for beginner fanfic writers and to those who want to familiarize on what to do and not to do. Ready? 1. Great Summaries and Title Make Great Stories- This is very true. The summaries and titles are the first things that the reader connects to. Make the title unique, but not unique as you go overboard with it. The summary should also make the reader want to read what you have to write. If you have a great plot but a horrible summary, not many people will read what you have to write. Also, don't write in your summary: "Please Read and Review!!!11! This is my first fanfic plz" This is a big turn-off! It makes you look like you're only doing it for reviews.(which you probably are) It makes the author sound really pitiful. It's also a good idea to check for spelling and grammatical errors in your summary. If you can't get your summary right, then what about your story? 2. Concerning OCs- OCs stands for "Other Characters". These characters are the ones that you have purely created. There are 2 different types of OCs. There are the background OCs that appear for only a short while in the fic, and there are the OCs that become supporting and sometimes main characters. Readers usually have a problem with the latter OCs. I think the reason why is because they tend to be Out of Character (OOC). If you create an OC, then make sure they fit in the setting you are writing them in. For example, in Avatar the Last Airbender, the characters tend to be based on Asian themes. When characters such as Bob, Tom, Brittany, etc. are created, it is very unappealing. When you write main character OCs, make sure they have some background and character growth. Don't make your main OCs "flat"! I'm not saying that OCs are bad, just be careful when you're writing them. 3. Mary Sues- Mary Sue (sometimes shortened simply to Sue) is a pejorative term for a fictional character who is portrayed in an overly idealized way and lacks noteworthy flaws, or has unreasonably romanticized flaws. Characters labeled Mary Sues, as well as the stories they appear in, are generally seen as wish-fulfillment fantasies of the author.(wikipedia) Mary Sues some of the worst things the author can write. They're the most frowned upon annoyance in Fanfiction. And yet most of the time, we write them anyways. So how does one avoid Sues? Stay "in character"!!! OOCs (out of character) are usually the first steps to creating Sues. The more "human" your character is the less it becomes a Sue. Your character can't just be the most popular, smartest, most athletic, humanitarian, likeable person ever that always get the guy/girl in the end. No one is like that! We all have flaws, inner and outer and your character has to have some too. |
