First of all, I am the TheUnknown, not TheUnknown4. Apparently, out of the other hundred thousand people on FF.net there is another Unknown and fanfiction.net doesn't allow two people to have the same name. That's perfectly reasonable execpt in my case. I went out and found that other Unknown and I did a little reaserch on him/her and from what I can tell, that person has not been active at all. No profile. No stories. No favorites. So, I loose my name to a person that probably hasn't been on FF.net in years. Not only that, I AM an avid reader, reviewer, and hopefull soon, writer. I'm pissed, but the only way to vent my rage is to write this. While doing the normal browsing through fanfiction that I am so accustomed to doing in the late evening I realise that the Harry Potter community on FF.net has truly grown. I discovered fanficton.netin 2001 and have stuck with it as my primary source of HP fanfiction since then butI'd neverbelieved it would get this big. There are now over a 150 thousand stories and 60 thousand authors thriving in these web pages and that is something that I find that truly amazing. But what amazes me even more, is how 99.9 percent of it all is crap! Everywhere you turn you have to read poorly thought out, poorly written, poorly proof read (and in some case not at all), and always, I mean always, poorly reviewed. And I'm not trying to say that everyone should not be given a chance at writting (I hope to try one day), I am just angry because with so much of the garbage pooring in it becomes increasingly difficult to find the good stuff, the organized, thought out, spelled checked, beta-checked, proof-read stories. I feel like maybe fanfiction could help make this better but they have a lot on their hands with managing this huge site. I would instead, rather authors just try to present themselves in a a more appealing way. I have never seen such stupid summeries for stories in my life. People are like "This is a story about harry's 6th year. he get powers, meets new friends, animagus, training, girls, quidditch and more! won't you join him and his friends for an action packed year r/r." WHAT THE F. Does anyone else see something wrong with that kind of summery. It doesn't tell you anything! There is no conflict, there is no central idea and that iswhat so many of the story summeries seem to look like. What's even worse is that sometimes good stories have summeries like this, which makes it absolutely impossible to find the story you want to read based on your interests. Well I'm done ranting now. I was just really angry about all of thisand needed to let it out. Everyone should read "The Fanfiction Trial." It conveys all my feelings and more and everything is so true. It's also funny. -TheUnknown oh yeah SLASH SUCKS |
