Author has written 1 story for Misc. Books. Hello everyone. I've been on and off Fanfiction.net for several years. I first logged on in jr. high, when I was obsessed with the Lord of the Rings movies and wanted to read anything with Legolas in it. (Obsessive teenage girl? Guilty as charged.) But I'm a little older now, and hopefully a little more mature. I'm 20 and about to begin my junior year of college as a Biology major. Reading and writing have always been my escape, my comforting hobby. So in between working and studying and reading, I hope to write some decent fanfics and original fics on fictionpress. I only have one story posted now, as you can see. At one time I had several fanfics, all LOTR based of course. But my writing has definitely matured since I wrote those pieces and I felt that they did not showcase my true writing abilities or my true literary interests. So I removed them. I still love and respect J.R.R. Tolkien and Middle Earth, but until I fix those works that I began, I am not doing justice to him or to myself. If i ever find the inspiration to redo them, I will post them again. As for the story that is posted, The Marque of Jasmine, it was written as a creative writing assignment during my freshman year of college. We were told to pick two paragraphs from our favorite authors and bring them to class the next day. We were then told that we were to write a short story, beginning with one paragraph by one author, and ending with the other. Our job was to mimic the tone and writing style of the authors, and somehow transition from one to the other in a believable manner. I must confess that I got lucky. A lot of my classmates had a male character in the first paragraph and a female in the second, and they were baffled as to how they would make that transition. At any rate, I began with a paragrph from Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel's Dart" (an absolute MUST read) and ended with a paragraph from Juliet Marillier's "Son of the Shadows". It was challenging , but I felt inspired by the process. The story is set in Jacqueline Carey's world, and for those who have read the book, a lot of things will be familiar. The original version was only about ten pages or so in length, but I am adding more detail as I post each chapter. I hope to make it a little longer and develop the characters more. Please review if you read my work. I really do enjoy hearing people's comments and/or criticisms. They help immensely. Happy reading! |
