Author has written 1 story for Maple Story. Yo. Aside from being a hopeless romantic, I'm something of a MapleStory veteran--it's been six years since I started playing back in 2005. I haven't played seriously since 2008, however. Yet within those three years, 2005 to 2008, I fell in love with all the concepts of the game and I felt inspired to channel all my awe and fascination of this game through writing. Now, my problem was that I was never consistent. I used to plan out stories on the spot, off the top of my head, and for me they never turned out well. Yet I was still persistent, and I kept on writing no matter how derailed my stories would become. I embodied the young teenage writer: Overbearing, hollow, and sensitive to criticism. The time came in 2008 when I finally decided to let go of my beloved MapleStory. Since then, I'd been able to hone both my pen and my mind--I'm much more insightful than I was before, though that comes naturally with age for most. I've delved into different styles of writing and I've composed my fair share of shorts and poems and all that. But I was never able to fully let this game go. Thus, I still read MapleStory fanfiction, or at least I've taken it up again recently, and I'm almost tempted to write my own again. Frankly it's the only real connection I have left to my glory days. Everything I might write regarding MapleStory is, at present, fueled almost completely by nostalgia, which I perceive to be more powerful than fascination alone. No matter how much disgust I might express when I see the game (or the people who play it) now, I can still confide in my own imagination and memories to help me see the good that was. Writing is just my outlet. (Note: Aside from fanfiction, I'd probably describe myself as highly descriptive and highly romantic. I don't get too much into concrete story elements unless I have to. All I'm going to describe here has to do with my fanfiction work.) Current works in progress: Arcane Divide (2011) - A story telling the tale of growing up through the context of the Maple world. An embodiment of all the nostalgia I've ever felt for this game and, to an extent, an allegorical representation of my MapleStory career. Works I've attempted to complete: Zakum/Fire and Darkness (2006 - 2007) (My favorite) Zakum/Fire and Darkness and Seven were both published here on FF, but I took them off out of shame. I may or may not regret this decision, but I'm rereading them now on Sleepywood for kicks. Works that have inspired my fanfiction include: Hacked! by Corill - This is the first MapleStory fanfiction I ever read. Even though I never read it much, this story is the one that really inspired me to start writing. |
