Author has written 2 stories for Yu-Gi-Oh, and Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL. This is the Write Points fan fiction account for YuGiOh Duel Monsters, it's sequels, and fictional Duel Monsters stories as well. Most importantly, I have a strict way of dueling that is best to explain here. This is an example. Dueler 1 vs. Dueler 2. Dueler 1 ops to go first - Life Points at 5,000. This is pretty much how we see duelists in the YuGiOh series. They start off with somebody apparently suggesting that they go first, so that's how these will start for me. As for the Life Points? I'd prefer it if they began at 5,000 rather than 4,000, since the former is a much rounder number than 4,000. 4,000 just seems like too little. There will be exceptions though, like 'Average Duel' which is also like an example, and when it's supposed to be like a canon YuGiOh duel. Draw: At the point they draw their card is the most important part to highlight. Not as much phases before and after them. You may have seen "Draw: Dueler 1's draw isn't revealed." in Average Duel, but I intend not to do that very much in future and official duels. That's often just laziness, but sometimes I'll do that just for dramatic effect to try and pay more attention to moves rather than what card is drawn. Masaki The Legendary Swordsman * represent the Star Levels. They will be exactly the same as the Star Level the Duel Monster is supposed to be. Then the Duel Monster. I capitalize the 'The', 'Of', 'An', 'A', etc. in the cards name, since it's all equally as important as part of the title. Also, I capitalize many dueling terms as they arise. Things like Life Points, Attack Points, Card Zones, etc. get capitalized on a regular basis. I think it looks better that way, a little. Flavor Text will not be written. It's Effects will be written, however. Underneath that will be the monster's Attack and Defense Points and then the Attribute and Type. The former I always did, the lader is something I'm starting for Write Points. When I make a card isn't in the real card game or anime, I will describe the card in Italics. This is also new to my fan fiction writing. Within the same paragraph as the Draw is the duelist's move. I go by the YuGiOh Duel Monsters way of making moves. That is without acknowledging each phase of dueling. It's Draw, then the move, then the attack, then it's time for the next duelist to go, like that. Dueler 2 goes next - Life Points at 5,000. The second duelist is unlikely to lose Life Points when going second. At this point, the second duelist is allowed to make an attack. The attack will be described and it's defeat, and any time the meter is supposed to appear. Also, ! means Spell Cards and may mean Trap Cards. That's about all there is to it. They keep on exchanging card attacks until something happens that makes them the winner of the duel. Usually when the opponents Life Points reach 0. It's as simple as that. Also - "Write Points" is a pun on "Life Points", and that's entirely on purpose. |
