![]() My name is Serja Daeva. I am twenty-three years old (December 12, 1984), a mother of a beautiful four-year-old boy. I have been reading since I was five. Books have always been an amazing escape for me. Some of my favorite authors include, Douglas Adams, Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks, David Eddings, Terry Goodkind, Anne McCaffery, Michael A. Stackpole, Patricia C. Wrede, Timothy Zahn, and Robert Zelazney. As you can see I love to read, which I believe is an important aspect in becoming a good author. The exploration of different styles helps you find your own voice by seeing what you like best. I started writing when I was thirteen. Mostly poetry at first, but soon tiny works of fiction began to emerge. Of course they were nothing grand. Whose initial writing ever is? But I kept going. Once I finally was able to join the grand world of the Internet I found several role-playing communities, primarily Star Wars and the Dragonriders of Pern -- toss in a bit of Xanth and other Dragonrider spin offs for flavor -- and I spent much of my waking hours role-playing, which means hours of writing. I learned a great deal about grammar, tense, punctuation and style in those first few years and I am always striving to improve myself to become a better author and write more believable stories. I joined a Star Wars community when I was sixteen called the Dark Brotherhood. At that time I joined as a Krath, which was a Dark Jedi who valued knowledge and in the community wrote fiction and performed role-plays. It was here I started writing my first serious fan fiction. I created my own unique character and was able to play with other unique characters in this world. I got to pit my writing against other authors in my community through the Dueling Institute of Eos (DIE). I was also granted the supreme privledge later of being able to judge matches and offer constructive criticism to fledgling authors to enable them to continue improving their own writing. I have always enjoyed teaching and guiding others. It seems to be something I am good at, so long as I am passionate about the subject. I have recently begun to work on some of my own original fiction. I hope to finish a book within the next year and get published. I enjoy writing fan-fiction, and have plans for a very dark Zelda piece. It will be mature, as much of my writing has been in recent years, and I hope that it will be well received despite the dark tone of the piece once I get it written and posted. It may well be my first piece posted here, though it is possible that I will go back into my hard drives and find some of my old Star Wars fiction and post it here as well, though given the age it is hardly a reflection of the author I am now, although it is a glimpse into where I have come from to get here. If anyone wants my help as a Beta I would be more than happy to assist, as I have been an editor for many of my friends over the past six or so years. I have performed many edits, corrected many typos, helped smooth plot wrinkles, assisted in the development of characters, and added depth to a plethora of descriptions. So if you would like me to look over a piece, I would be more happy to assist. Simply drop me an email and I will look into it as swiftly as possible. Also, please leave comments on any stories I post, good or bad. Especially the bad. If there is something that truly irked you, or just didn't seem correctly motivated I want to hear about it. Constructive critisism is indeed the greatest gift you can give an author and I am happy to receive it. Ciao! |
