Maria awoke slowly to the familiar surroundings of her governess' bedroom, only to realize with shock that she was not alone. Oh heavens! With the Captain sleeping next to her there would be plenty of time to have regrets about what happened the night before.

Maria finds herself burning with curiosity about the intimacies that exist between man and wife. She resolves never to reveal to her fiancé just how many gaps there are in her marital education - but when a mischievous Georg offers to turn their weekly meetings about the children into weekly lessons in the art of love, she discovers it's an offer she can't quite refuse...

An AU which imagines that Richard and Isobel might have met before the start of Series 1, when they were working as part of the army's medical corps during the Boer War, and had an affair. The plot will follow that of Series 1, but not closely. This story will pay major homage to The English Patient.

The Anschluss and Nazi Party invade and Austria ceases to exist. All opposed to it are considered enemies to the Reich and therefore must be exterminated. But they didn't count on the will, faith and love of one group of people who are determined to escape and defy the evil empire - and become a family in the process.

Dr. Clarkson stops by to check on his favorite nurse, the mourning Isobel Crawley. He finds her worse off then he could have imagined and wishes he could take away her grief. Rating may change as story continues...

This was started within minutes of the Christmas episode finishing. All I planned to do was find a way to get from Isobel not wanting to risk everything for marriage to finding her way back to the man she is clearly fond of. The last few minutes put pay to that and this has become a more angsty, therapeutic story.

A rewrite of the scene where Richard talks about going to bed with a glass of whiskey. Isobel tries to persuade him that he's too young to settle for that. OC, AU and so very unlikely.

And that's why Richard and Isobel have to thank the nurse that hang the mistletoe in the hospital corridor - nothing serious, one shot, based on the euphoric effect that Christmas causes me.
