Now - I decided to clarify some details about my headcanon of HP universe.

It was prompted by some confusion from readers (I am looking at you Smutley) concerning the Trace, and how Aurora masked it with a rune array. I am aware that canon says the Trace is a just big pile of Bullshite. That said I found it unrealistic and highly idiotic considering that it would lead to breaking the Statue of Secrecy pretty much immediately if there was no way of tracking magic use in muggle heavy area.

So you can treat my take on HP universe as an AU - but close to the canon in most areas.

Now for some fleshed out explanation.

TRACE

It works twofold in my universe.

Firstly there is a wand-specific Trace on wands of underage wizards/witches, criminals under probation etc. It is tied to a wand in a form of a charm and informs Ministry of an owner spell usage. Underage Trace is inactive during the school year (those that go home during Holls gets it activated again - Ministry is informed by Hogwarts who goes home) and Trace for criminals triggers if there is a use of illegal magic (Unforgivables, Dark Arts etc.). The Trace charm works by detecting magic that is channelled by the wand and sending that information to the Improper Use of Magic Office. What Aurora did to Harry's wand was basically mask the magic channelled by the wand, rendering the Trace charm useless. She didn't remove the Trace charm because that would be detected immediately and would trigger arrest warrant for Harry.

Secondly, there is general Trace on the whole of Great Britain. It acts as a detection ward and has a widespread area of effect. The sensitivity depends on the density of magical population - if there is a substantial one the only thing detected are Unforgivables. In a muggle-only area, general Trace is sensitive enough to detect magic up from low-medium levels - so weak magic (like Lumos) goes undetected. It is so due to the existence of ambient raw magic which would trigger the general Trace if it was too sensitive. This type of Trace can be warded against and such action is actually recommended by the Ministry. Because otherwise, DMLE would be flooded by alerts from everyday magic from magical dwellings. So places like Magical households, Diagon, Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and Platform 9 3/4 - they are warded against general Trace. This Trace is also used to detect accidental magic - so Obliviators can deal with the muggleborn accidental magic outburst in public.

Well ... here I am again. Sorry for the wait but RL took some precedence for a while, from now on I should be able to update at least once a month. I will try hard to uphold that schedule because I wouldn't like it myself if the author took a five-month hiatus out of nowhere.

I also have a few new ideas for my future fanfics but I won't start anything for now.

Hello there, I wanted to inform anyone interested that there will be some delay on the next chapter of VA due to less time available to me for writing. That is because I got a job. I should be able to release the chapter at the end of the month tho. I want to also inform you about the poll about my writing style and if you want it changed (mostly issue of using single and double quotation in an opposite way). Hi there. I am sorry to inform you but it looks like I will not able to uphold my deadline. I have less than a half of my minimum (7.5 k.) chapter word count and it doesn't look like I will be able to finish it in promised time. I didn't expect to be so completely knackered after job. I will now aim for two chapters this month without the usual decompression period in between.

Eh ... So here I am again, after a few months of not updating anything. Yep, you guessed it ... Sorry. Too much on my mind to really be able to write anything. But thankfully this should be behind now. And my muse is back, thanks to a new story - Love after Death (LaD). Don't worry tho - VA is still my main work, so I will be updating it soon. The poll I promised will be taken at the release of the new chapter of VA, but I wrote LaD in the style that will be taken if the poll says to change the ' for ". So there you go. I hope to write again after updating VA. Bye!
