Hodges was born on October 14, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He still left university to join the U.S. Army and played baseball for the initial time while stationed in the Philippines. When he returned property, he signed with ABCs and played with them when they joined the Negro Countrywide League. Right after a robust occupation, he retired from enjoying in 1971 and managed a number of teams.
