![]() Author has written 4 stories for Fairy Tail. [13th August] I am sorry to say that this account is most likely inactive. I no longer even have the time to read fanfiction -- I must focus more on my language learning, art, and studying. But please, feel free to read. You may find something interesting. Also you can message me with whatever, I'll still log in. In fact please do message me. A Bit About Myself I won't say too much about myself other than the basics. Name: Hmm... begins with 'A'. My age: I'm 18. Gender: Male. Nationality: Half British/half American - dual citizenship, I live in Wales. Birthday: 27th October. Personality Type: INTP but everything except for 'I' is borderline... I cannot be categorised. Likes: Anime, TV, videogames, reading, writing (obviously), most food, stationery (especially fountain pens), extremely windy weather, art, distracting obsession with calligraphy - dunno if that counts as a like though, Dislikes: Welsh Bac, British weather, Physics!, lots more, lots more, Fairy Tail is my favourite anime and TV show and one of the only manga I've cared to read. All Anime I have watched in chronological order: Bleach, Gantz, Danganronpa, Death Note, Mirai Nikki (Future Diary), Fairy Tail, Junjou Romantica, Sekai Ichi-Hatsukoi, Naruto (gave up on it though at the start of Shippuuden), Sword Art Online, Hataraku Maou-sama! (Devil is a Part Timer), Kill la Kill, Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), Deadman Wonderland, Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler), Nichijou, and Psycho Pass. On my list is: Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gintama, Steins;Gate, No Game No Life, Another and Naoki Urasawa's Monster. I have not included anything in this list I thought to be a complete waste of my time or ditched almost immediately. This list is here: Gakuen Heaven (shudder - WHY?), Gravitation (Again - Shudder), Kyo Kara Maoh (just too weird), Magi, Rave (I have to ask does this get better after the first ten episodes?) Books I am currently reading: Of Men and Monsters, I am Legend, Kraken. My favourite book is: 'War of the Worlds' by H.G. Wells. I also like: Game of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Futurama, Black Books and Arrested Development. Some of my favourite videogames are (this is only a small number of them): The Last of Us -- better than most movies/TV series I've seen, Uncharted Series, Oblivion, Little Big Planet, Skyrim, Far Cry, Mass Effect, Portal 2 and many more. I speak a limited amount of Japanese and have decent french. The only emoticons I will use: \_(ツ)_/ and o_O A somewhat objective collection of my thoughts of fanfiction/my idea of what makes good fanfiction: [Continuously Updated] 1)A lot of really good story ideas I end up loosing interest in due to lack of descriptive content and too much of solely objective events - take time to really describe any events, locations, characters' mood, weather, scene etc. What are the other characters' reactions to an event? Put time and thought into making stories credible.
3) Relating to point 2, don't be immature and pair everyone up; it's unrealistic because the characters are usually way too young.
5) Romance should be the side to a good story. Fluff without humour or without being 'earned' through development of a relationship is just boring. I don't mind drabbles though because they are a series of different possible scenarios based on the same idea - although sometimes when they're just too perfect I feel physically ill. I must stress that I really do not mind fluff when the story is funny. I like stories without tons of love confessions. I prefer romance stories where it is unrequited for quite some time or when hatred and annoyance gradually turns to something else. Either that or the complete other side of the coin - crack. The best is when they're combined though.
7) I have a dislike of overpowered enemies just as much as I do for Mary Sues/Gary Stus. There is a reason: I think a lot of the time it is down to the creation of 'easy' angst but I feel like it disregards the characters' abilities by just making up someone who can curb stomp them - try to make the protagonists a victim of unfortunate circumstances or make the enemy lure them into a trap/dilemma. Otherwise it disrupts the order laid out by the original writers. Only they have the right to create overpowered enemies or characters. Trust me it's just ridiculous otherwise.
9) A 'dark' story is not inherently more interesting than one which isn't. Many a writer think they can make their story better by inserting a situation such as character torture. This does not make the story more interesting. An interesting story is dependent on ability so attempting to make a story better through use of dark themes is just ridiculous and in many cases unfitting.
11) Crack pairings are amazing. Write more of them. However, any crack pairing can be made not crack with good reasoning.
13) I cannot stand (most) harem stories. As if all the female characters have nothing better to do than to obsess over the lead male character just because he might have saved them a few times. Also what the hell do all the other male characters do? Are they just part of the scenery? [Oh and obviously this goes for reverse as well.]
Fairy Tail Specific: 1) Try something new and different unless you honestly believe you are improving on a concept. Too many of these exist and they just get boring: Lucy runs away/is kicked out, Lucy love triangles (she's really not that great, don't get me wrong she is nice but there are loads of other attractive women in FT so I don't think everyone would be after Lucy. Too many NaLu/GraLu/StiLu/Lucy x Various stories have a jealous other character and that's just one of the many reasons why I'm put off them), Natsu trains for two years - comes back is totally overpowered - has a harem etc, alternate magic abilities/alternate storylines whereby there is not enough divergence in the plot, Lucy becomes a dragon slayer/discovers she's the dragon queen or whatever, DRAGON MATING - if you're going to do this make it good, not just random smut, biting, Mpreg, whatever (more in point 8.)
3) A lot of female authors seem to think they are Lucy in a way - or at least insert themselves into her character - basically a lot of fantasizing and "Pay attention to me!" psychology - a desire to feel sorry and cry melodramatically for the self insert of the character you have made Lucy and then have her comforted by random attractive guys like Sting/Rogue/Laxus etc. This kind of thing is even more evident when first person is used. Lucy's character is of low patience and she's snappy but that's part of what makes up the comedy aspects of Fairy Tail; she is also not very confident at all when it comes to relationships. The same goes for guys inserting themselves into Natsu's character - mostly in harem fics. Natsu is not exactly the cleverest person ever but he is honest and straightforward; he is quite oblivious to relationships so I highly doubt he would have so many girls in love with him - although this can be played well to make a very funny story, it is almost never achieved so they often turn down the path of OOCness...
5) NATSU'S AGE: I don't mean his current age, but writers get his childhood age frequently wrong in flashbacks etc. Guys, it's not that hard to work out what is possible and what isn't. Natsu is around 17-19 in X784 (we don't actually know.) The dragons disappeared in X777. Natsu joined the guild that same year. That was 7 years in the past (or 14 if you include the timeskip.) Therefore before Natsu was 10-12 he was still training with Igneel. What I mean by this is you can't have a flashback of him at Fairy Tail when he was 7 or so. It's impossible.
7) Why do I mostly deal with Fairy Tail fanfiction? For some reason I've found the world/characters and plot to be the ultimate outlet for my creativity - both writing and reading - DESPITE THE AWFUL STATE THIS FANDOM IS IN. The best explanation I have for this is that whatever crap you throw into the Fairy Tail world or in the characters' paths, it almost always works. Whether it be romance or adventure or Sci-Fi; I never feel like it doesn't belong. To Summarise: I can forgive the many truly horrible, boring, plain, cliché, weak, fantasising, badly written fics here because sometimes I can find a truly good piece of work and it really is a pleasure to write for. Edit: I would read more Bleach FF but there's not nearly enough of the only pairing I like - Shuuhei x Kira. Other Fandoms I have tried are SNK, Haruhi Suzumiya Series, Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi and Junjou Romantica. Observations on SNK Fanfic: [I'm new to this fandom so expect it to be short - also it's not in such a bad state as FT fanfic is] 1) Levi's name. It is Levi, not Rivaille. The katakana is リヴァイ・アッカーマン which says Ribai Akkaaman. If his name were to be Rivaille, the aille at the end--and since I'm assuming this name to be French--makes a kinda ai-ye sound like in 'The Palace of Versailles'. So the katakana for this would be リヴァイア or something along those lines - there might be a different way to write this pronunciation. But it is most certainly not Levi Rivaille. His surname is Ackerman. Everything wrong with yaoi manga: Gender role bullshit, scene in the rain, 'I hope senpai notices me,' 'If it's you, it's okay,' dude that's stalking, wacky misunderstanding, chins like steak knives, imbalanced power dynamics, sparkly background, free space, gross sound effects, wall pin, yaoi hands, women are dreadful harpies, 'breaking up would be healthier,' 'what is this strange feeling?' A List of 15 of My Favourite Characters (Brackets where I can't decide a particular order): [Natsu, Gray, Wendy] [Erza, Mirajane] [Ultear, Gajeel, Cobra] [Sting, Rogue] Happy, [Makarov, Lisanna, Cana] Kagura, And from other anime: SNK: [Mikasa, Eren, Levi, Hange] Hataraku Maou-Sama: Maou, [Alciel/Ashiya, Lucifer/Urishihara] Bleach: [Yoruichi, Urahara] Soi-Fon, Hitsugaya, Matsumoto, Kurotsuchi, [Renji, Shuuhei, Kira] (and definitely not Ichigo -- seriously bland for a main character.) From Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu: Kyon, Yuki Nagato, Itsuki Koizumi, Stories I have Planned Next: - Hammerhead - Lucy didn't really know what to expect when she ran away from home. What she could never have anticipated was being saved from the clutches of a slave trade by none other than the legendary Hammerhead himself - the one and only Shark Dragon Slayer Natsu! But did she really want to be taken to the dystopian town of Magnolia in which your standard of living is strictly based on your position within the shady organisation known as Fairy Tail? - White Fire - - Sting x Natsu - Set before GMG arc. Sting was supposed to hate him. He was merely trash from Fiore's weakest Guild. So why was Sting taking care of an injured Natsu at his own house and why did he desperately want to know what the fire mage was so upset about? How long will Sting be able to keep up his façade of hatred? Gradual Sting x Natsu. - One Final Chance - - Gray x Natsu - As cause of an unknown event, Natsu looses almost half of his magic power. Gray only wishes to protect him but Natsu's having none of it. Over the course of time Natsu struggles with coming to grips with his newfound weakness, only... it feels like something is missing. What are the rest of Fairy Tail hiding from him - and why does it have Gray so depressed? [Most likely the next story I'm writing] - My Mistake - - Gray x Natsu - What Natsu thought was the start of a relationship he later finds out was just a one night stand for Gray, a mistake. So Gray dates Juvia... and then Lucy. Loosing his best friends proves to be too much for Natsu so he leaves for a while to search for Igneel. Will he find new love instead? Will Gray ever realise his mistake, and when he does will Natsu ever be able to forgive him? Ultimately Gray x Natsu but with Sting x Natsu in the middle. If I could invent something, anything, it would be a forget me gun. Something which could make you forget anything of your choosing. It could be use from anything from forgetting embarrassing things which you've done to looking back on something you've made with an outsider's perspective and also being able to watch/read something as if you haven't seen/read it yet. PLEASE somebody invent this! I love you google chrome but please stop underlining British English as incorrect! Amazing Fanfictions that are on Archive of Our Own but not fanfiction.net: (Think of it as an extension to my favourites list.) The Road Not Taken by fencer_x An alternate plot to Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi in which Yuu Yanase confesses to Chiaki before Hatori. [Yuu x Chiaki. Very well written and better story than Canon IMO.] Jäger Royale by Variabile Jean accidentally sends half-naked selfies to an unlisted number in his contact list and it's all downhill from there and by downhill I mean that this is an university!AU entirely told through misspelled texts.
