![]() Author has written 3 stories for Merlin. I came across BBC Merlin one summer day back in 2013 when I was surfing Netflix with my brother. We had actually seen a bit of season 1 back in '08 or '09 when it aired on ABC, so when we found it on Netflix, we thought, hey, why not? That "hey why not" turned into a six-month-long odyssey of watching an episode here and there between our busy schedules, sometimes going weeks between watching. It was somewhere in the middle of the first season for me when the "hey why not" became a love affair. By the fourth season, episodes were not enough for me, so I started following Merlin related facebook pages. Finally, in December of 2013, my brother and I watched the series finale, "The Diamond of the Day Part 2". That was where the story ended for him, but not for me. I was shocked, intrigued, hurt, and generally unsatisfied with the ending, so I joined Tumblr and began my obsession. I had always considered fanfiction to be the epitome of nerdiness and something I could never get into, but BBC Merlin changed that. I loved so much about the show: the humor, the characters, the development in relationships, and I was not ready to say goodbye to all of that. More than a year later, I'm still not ready to say goodbye. Anyway, I started reading Merlin fanfiction to fill the void that the show left in my soul, and when that wasn't enough, I began to come up with ideas of my own. So far I haven't had the time or motivation to write that much, but I'm working on it, and if you want to see the results of that feeble work, you've come to the right place. I don't write much fiction. My better writing is analytical, delving deep into characters and plotlines to find hidden meanings, then reporting it as best I can with supporting evidence from scholarly writing. But isn't that sort of what fanfiction is? In the work that I have, I've done my best to explore the elements of the relationships between my favorite Merlin characters in a way that is interesting to you and captivating to me, and I really hope it translates well. To sum up: BBC Merlin is a beautiful show with incredible characters that I will probably never stop obsessing over. Some of the fanfiction I've read in this fandom is better than published books I've read, and there are a few fanfics I can't help but read over and over (wryter501, I'm looking at you). I actually don't read fanfiction for anything other than Merlin, and I can't say if I ever will. Anyway, thanks for stopping by my own slice of the Merlin fandom, and if you're interested, my Tumblr is cursed-druid-girl. Hope you have an awesome day! (While Merlin is the only fandom for which I read fanfiction, I am completely obsessed with Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, and am also a fan of Lord of the Rings, Avatar: The Last Airbender, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Neil Shusterman's Unwind books.) SOME PERSONAL INFORMATION My name is Elise. I'm a high school student in the United States. My favorite subject in school (if you couldn't guess from my above rambling) is English, and one of my plans in life is to become an English teacher. My biggest dream, however, is to be a film/tv actress. I love watching movies and tv shows; I see acting as an intricate art form and I would love to be able to bring characters to life on screen with the intimacy and dedication of some of my favorite actors (cough cough Colin Morgan). I'm a theatre kid, a musician, I'm rather new at writing, actually, and I love any kind of guidance I can get. If you're debating whether or not to post that review, worried it might be too harsh, please post it. Constructive criticism is my best friend right now, and any amount is appreciated. FANDOMS I mentioned some of my fandoms above, but I'll put a full list here. I'm not involved in the actual fandom of a lot of these things, but if you were to message me about any of them, I would talk for days. So, in no particular order: BBC Merlin (obviously) Harry Potter Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings Avatar: The Last Airbender (but not The Legend of Korra; I haven't gotten the time to watch that one yet) A Song of Ice and Fire Unwind Les Miserables AMC Humans ABC Once Upon A Time ABC Forever Into the Woods NBC The Night Shift Disney Wicked the Musical The Bloody Jack series iZombie |
