What I do:

I teach history to high school kids and I love it.

I read to escape and I read to inform myself. I read to see the world from another perspective.

I write because it's something I wish I could do well. Practice makes perfect, neh?

Who I read:

I've followed Orson Scott Card around the US to get his autograph. Speaker for the Dead changed my life. I attended the one and only EnderCon, and I attended a writer's workshop hosted by him. No, I'm not a stalker. But, I have had the opportunity to hear OSC read the first and last chapter of Ender's Game. Wow. That was worth jail time.

New favorite author: John Green. I fell in love with him doing Crash Course on Youtube (for History) and then one of my students brought me The Fault In Our Stars and I read it two times in a row. I spent the rest of the week reading his other three books (two times each) and they are just wonderful. When I found out that TFIOS was being made into a movie I was ecstatic! They did such a good job and I am glad that this history nerd is seeing such awesome success. It gives me hope.

Of course there are the standbys: JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, JK Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Suzanne Collins, Stephen King, Cassandra Clare, VC Andrews (don't ask, I don't quite understand myself), and many others.

Fanfiction: If you haven't read anything by Ellenka, Counselor, or Taoist elf you should. It will change your life.

My FF activity:

I beta for MarinaNamaste. You should check out her story: Red Robin and Pineapples and Cherries. She also has two little one-shots if you like little lemons. She's my beta and she makes me so much better. She's been a great friend and I've never met her in person. Fanfic world is something else.

I'm trying to write things out of my comfort zone...that means I have to read them out of my comfort zone, too. That can be uncomfortable.

I was a traveling fool this summer. England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Bangkok, Cambodia, Malaysia, South Korea...Idaho. I had a lot of time to write on planes. I have some great ideas and I am working on a new story. When I get about 10 chapters deep I'll begin posting. Add me to your author's alert list.
