Zelda is forced to leave everything she knows and move to a new country alone, where she will embark on a fascinating journey at her new boarding school. The students are quickly intrigued by her. Set in renaissance Italy during the Bonfire of the Vanities. Zelda's father sends her from the madness in Florence with a man she doesn't know. Can she trust him to get her to the safety of her family's villa near Venice or will he prove treacherous?

A dragon terrorizes the town, and in a panic they decide to sacrifice their virgin priestess to appease him. What Zelda expects to be a quick and painful death turns into something she never expected.
