This short story is a "what if" variation. What if Georgiana elopes with Wickham, but comes to her senses before Gretna Green is reached. It is definitely low angst. Mr and Mrs Bennet are rather better parents than depicted by Jane Austen. There will be six chapters. I hope you enjoy it. The T rating is just to be on the safe side.

The classic twist of Mr. Bennet dies, Darcy offers a marriage of protection, and he and Elizabeth must work through their pride and prejudices without being able to escape one another.

Reading P&P, Mr Darcy's feelings seem rather acute, but do not get much attention. This story explores them from the moment just after his rejection, to beyond his actual marriage. The action follows P&P exactly, but some secondary characters, most notably Georgiana and Mrs Younge, push the boundaries of Miss Austen's description. The style of writing diverges from hers ever more.

This is a piece, more for my own understanding of exactly what occurred at the Meryton Assembly, is from Darcy's POV. I was struck by the few words but significant expression when I re-watched the BBC production at the time his character was initially introduced into the story. There was pride and prejudice aplenty at that gathering, from more than one quarter.

If memory is the diary we carry about with us, what happens if we misplace it? Hermione Granger wakes up in a hospital with almost no recollection of who she is or either of the two men claiming to be her fiancé. "What's the last thing you remember?" The Healer pressed on through his little quiz and now things were really bad. "I… nothing," she said finally. COMPLETE
