Hey All, I don't have much to say except that I am a fan of many fandoms. While I like to write creatively, I haven't published anything yet online. Yeah, I'm a big chicken. Maybe one day I'll have the courage to do so. Some of my favorites universes include: Battle Royale Harry Potter Captain America and Winter Soldier Lord of the Rings trilogy (big fan of the movies and while I have read the books, I can appreciate that books and movies are separate entities) Star Wars Outsiders Phantom of the Opera There are other fandoms but those are the top ones that come to my mind readily. I'm what you would call a picky fan fiction reader. I have certain standards and I realize that it might come across as snobby of me when I don't publish my own works. However, I read to relax and get my mind off things. I don't want to waste my time on fics that frustrate me. People write fan fiction for a variety reasons. It can be because they love the world of Harry Potter and what to develop their own OC and explore that world. Some people write it to get their feet wet as writers and use established worlds and characters to do so. Some do it to "Fix" what they didn't like in a particular movie or book. While I hate to pick on Harry Potter because I love that world, I know a lot of people who wrote one shots where Percy died instead of Fred. (Can't say I blame them. That's what I would've done. If there has to be casualties let it be the not-so prodigal son) Or some friends who pretend the epilogue doesn't exist in Deathly Hallows. My biggest pet peeves about fans and fan fictions is when it comes to sexual orientation and canon characters written as homosexual. It's one thing if the author is exploring an adolescent's sexuality and experimentation is involved because let's face it, adolescence is when we are really exploring ourselves as people and we have virtually no clue as to what we want. It's another when an established, adult character spontaneously and out of character decides they're going to try their hand at a same sex romp, that's often out of character. So, that being said, I tip my hat to those who write and publish their works for the public to consume. It takes a lot of courage to do so! |
