![]() midwinteroasis. Unfortunately rather than write, I read :D (c)-complete, (ic)-incomplete Ghost Hunt The ones I listed below are the ones that I have always always felt stood out from the rest of the stories in this fandom. I can promise you that they are good. Like, really good. VivaEdina: Unlucky Lady(c), Unlucky Secrets(c) - Welp, those are no longer available, she rewrote that series into one tale alone: Unlucky (c) Ayama-chi 4: File 13-The One Who Cries At Night(c) Calkat: Aversion Theory(c), History of War(ic) silverscribbles (previously:curatorangelus): 1oI:Goddess(c), 1oII:Teacher(c), 1oIII:Mirror(c) 1oIV: Cursed (ic) Eternus (ic) Whoever reads these and does not feel like clawing curtains in desperation for the next tidbit is a)more patient than I am, b) emotionless c) an idiot. Eternus is the only one that takes place in AU. I'm still upset that I will never know the end. Ms Bat: A Froggy Tale (c), A Swan's Tale (c) --These two happen in AU. Fortune's Wheel (c), Theatre Wars (c) --These two are prequel and sequel respectively. Her other oneshots and shorter stories are also just as worth the read. Spirited Away Velf is by far and away the best Spirited Away fanfic author I have ever come across. I do not know if there are any new authors who have managed to write to the standard Velf has set but if there is, do let me know. Indeed there are many that are good, provide a good laugh and fuzzy feelings but there are few that I can truly admire. Velf: Courage of the Spirit(c), Enchantment of the Heart(c) Resilience of the Soul (c) Inuyasha Bons Baisers: After the BoneEater's Well. This is...B.R.I.L.L.I.A.N.T. You will NEVER EVER regret reading it. But damn its incomplete...I actually cried when I realised that. Coz this is one of the BEST Inuyasha fanfics I've ever seen. California Dreaming. Same author. Similarly as brilliant. Unfortunately similarly as incomplete. Quillwing717: Sachi. I loved this one. Unfortunately it is incomplete. And not updated for...oh..at least 5 years. What is there of it so far is a damn good read. But unless you wish to be sad like me and pining for more, don't read it. Otherwise, you'll love the story. It is one of the nicest out there. It's updated since as of...2018, but the author hasn't updated again. I've recently read an Inuyasha fic that I think holds a lot of promise. Even better, it's complete and listed below. I've given up reading incomplete fics mostly coz waiting is murder ShadowsWeaver1: Tears of the Fallen. I am not usually a fan of anything but Inuyasha and Kagome. It is hard for me to tolerate what is not considered OTP in my mind. But if the fic is truly good and convincing, I can and do appreciate the storytelling and skill used in weaving the story such as with this story Tears of the Fallen. I read it and found it a good read. My only peeve would be the ending as I had trouble following some of the last chapters. And maybe some things that I felt would have made an impact if left as they were. But I could understand the author being unable to resist the temptation to do so. Torenza: Dead Famous. I loved this one. Bottled Genius was good too. Even better, both are complete. Witchygirl99: Elevator Music. It's AU and the whole story is basically Inuyasha and Kagome stuck in an elevator. But you know what? It was damn good. Artemis Fowl GMontag: Artemis Fowl: The Book of Ages (c). It was brilliant. Painful but brilliant. I still think some things could have been changed but that is totally the author's prerogative. There's another one with something to do with ..an Aztec Incident? I have to find the name but that one was good too. You can almost touch how much research went into writing that story. The Creatress: Persephone's Crown (c). It's bloody incomplete...but despite that..I loved what was on for offer. And it's ending, which is how I will refer to that incomplete chapter, was kinda enough to act as one. wolfraven8o: Awesome author. Reading her works makes one feel like it's the actual AF book one is reading. I feel like she captures the Holly/Artemis dynamic down to pat, the way they speak, etc. I had a ball imagining her headache with trying to make sure every single sentence Arty spoke was in multiples of 5 in that one story. Which would I recommend? All of them. There's not a single AF story she wrote that I would not recommend. Lli: Seen In A Certain Light (c) is definitely one I would recommend. It's beautiful, on so many levels and ends on a gentle note. It's not often I get to feel such satisfaction at the end of a story and I gave that ending a 100/10. This New World is kinda a one-shot, kinda a sequel. I put it here because...I just can't help but like it. Parentare. It's a one-shot that had a very apt warning about Kleenex or the like being necessary. I almost hate the author for this one-shot. But I loved it all the same because it made me cry. When someone can use words to make you shed tears...you know it's a rare gift. Oh look, I just wiped away those tears and the moment I started reading, it all came back. I changed my mind, I'm murdering Lli xD With that said, I'm not particularly fond of some of her other tales, but that's a matter of taste, if anything, and not necessarily a reflection of her writing skills. Bleach ForeverSam: All In Your Head (c). I do feel like there are some things not explained properly like how his explanation in the end was insufficient imo. And how quickly the recovery happened. But the angst was delicious. And believable. takaondo: Woman Weapons (c). This one is a one-shot and made me chuckle enough that it should be put in the list. Silver Matter: Ever After. This one deserves to be on for the mere reason that it made me tear up. I don't understand everything in the story's premise but that doesn't matter. Final Fantasy 8 Ashbear: ANYTHING and I do mean ANYTHING by Ashbear should be read. Similar with Velf, I consider her the best FF8 writer I have ever seen. Gundam Seed Just to say that I can guarantee anything I put in this list is worth reading. Pisces Miles: Anything by this author is worth reading. The GSeed Trilogy is definitely worth a read. I was hooked from beginning to end for each one. And this author won my love when he/she wrote about the one character that I had always wished hadn't died: Rusty Mackenzie. They are also ALL complete. pratz: Stuff by pratz is pretty good, a few mistakes here and there but that's probably coz he/she doesn't use a beta reader? I would recommend. Being Athrun Zala honestly had me a bit confused at the end though. The Owl Policy, A Coconut Thrown By A Monkey, Being Athrun Zala puzzlepuzzle: Truth, Truth Be Told. The stories are very elaborate and descriptive. They flow wonderfully and take the reader on a great joyride. Definitely recommended. I cannot begin to express how..deeply it delves into people; especially with Truth Be Told. Then there is The Isle and its incomplete sequel The Secrets Between. When I started reading The Isle, I had two thoughts in my head 1) That I was glad it was complete because I would have died of anticipation waiting for each chapter to emerge. 2) That I could only dream of writing like this. She somehow managed to convey that sense of dread people feel when encountering dangerous situations or a character that is quietly volatile. Basically read everything she has written on GSeed. Believing is a good one too, so is Private Nuisance. There is one by DamageCtrl called Let Justice Be Done but I'm rather iffy with adding it to my list. It has a brilliant idea and an interestingly thought out world. The only thing I don't really like is how it seemed to be resolved so easily. I am unable to put my finger on it but there is something that pokes at me. I probably have to re-read it a few more times. Labyrinth dansemacabre: The End of Days. I was very intrigued with a fan art of Labyrinth done by an artist on a page of an author I was reading, and found the idea of Labyrinth intriguing. Hence, I looked for some good stories Peter Pan This was mainly because I could never fully accept the original Peter Pan ending that way. weezer42: The Forever Dance. Whither By Moonlight. I truly love this author's writing. Sometimes things happen really fast and may be a bit unbelievable, but somehow with how it was written, it fit perfectly. I was snickering helplessly when reading the dialogue between Wendy's parents in Whither By Moonlight because it was as if I could see it in my head. Prince of Tennis Lacus Date (previously: Bunny Sakuno): While she writes pretty general stuff that are the root of fantasies by all us readers, it is fun and wonderful to read. It may not take a lot of mind twisting to get thru her stories as it is for some others but hers make me smile. Some situations seem rather far-fetched, and chemistry happens a lot faster than it might happen in reality, but WHO CARES xD, coz her stuff is meant for the nutty fangirl such as I. I would recommend (based on personal taste) Coming Home, For Services Rendered. Not that the others are not fun to read, but these are the two I felt best about when reading. Hiei's Cute Girl: Frisky. It's a oneshot but I would recommend this one solely because I burst out laughing when I read it. I mean really, comparing Ryoma to an AMOEBA. Hazelnut: A Wig For A Swig. Again, it is a one shot and I put it up because it also sent me into fits of laughter. There's another fanfic which I cannot remember, I probably have to search my alerts list for it. Ranma 1/2 Krista Perry: Hearts of Ice. If I remember correctly, this was the first full length Ranma fanfic I could not put down. nihongoneko: Enter the Prayer Beads (ic). This was damn funny and is a crossover between Ranma and Inuyasha. Ranma encounters prayer beads...to make a long story short. Unfortunately it hasn't been updated since 2014...but what is up for reading is kinda worth the pain. The author writes with a flair that really brings out the comedy tone one would expect of Takahashi Rumiko. Put it this way: if there had to be a crossover, this is the perfect one. Rurouni Kenshin Dragonsdaughter: Her Ronin Kaoru series are brilliant. But they are unfinished, which makes me extremely unhappy. It also appears that they will always remain that way. It's really a pity because you can tell how much thought was put into writing the stories based on Kaoru. Conspirator: Descent into Madness. This one is a must-read. It chronicles Kenshin's youth from when he first started being an assassin until after Tomoe's death. It is obviously made-up but the story-telling is so heart-wrenching and poignant that you feel that this IS his story. I felt like my own heart was being torn around. Ravyn: As far as I can tell, anything by her is good so far. Her stories are full of detail, world-building and enough description to help you dive into the story. I would prefer if she structured her paragraphs a little differently since it looks like a lot of text...but honestly...I love the fact that her chapters are so so so long. I haven't read (or cannot remember reading) all of her RK stories - and she has a lot of those, thank goodness - but the ones I've read were great. So far, I have seen Ebony Glass (c), Little One (c)...and I'm sure I've read another one or two that I cannot recall. I plan to read Wolf Kin, Marching Home and basically just about everything else. Samurai Deeper Kyo luna-magic-2005: That Which Feeds The Inner Flames. I loved how from the start to the end, I was carried along by the author in the story. There was no awkward pause where the writing seemed stilted, nor was there any cringe-worthy element. I felt that the characters were expertly explored to stay true to who they were but discovering new parts. Soul Eater Poisoned Scarlet: Away From The Sun. It was such a fun easy read. And I was hooked from beginning to the end. The ending was really really fitting to the Soul Eater vibe despite this being AU. Those were on my favourites list. Now I need to sort thru my Alerts list for the good ones. Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro Moriyama Neko-hime: So far, this is one of the few authors that manage to capture the characters and yet add another dimension to them without making it feel completely bizarre. Anatomy of Affection (c) and its sequel Token of Affection (ic) were a damn good read. His gradual change did not feel jarring and I feel she caught his thoughts and incomprehension quite brilliantly. If one wants to read something that is in the vein of the original series yet have believable character growth and tweaks, these two stories will hit you exactly in the right spot. Her oneshot I Promise is AU but nevertheless also worth a read. Currently planning to read more of her work Stranger in the Dark |
