Hi everybody! My name is Emily, I am 16, from good ole’ Massachusetts, and I am new around these parts. I am also setting up a fantasy gallery now, and I will link that when its done, but for now its all about the fanfiction. I love fantasy, fantasy art and fantasy stories. Mercedes Lackey was the first fantasy author I ever read, and her books still hold a happy squishy place in my heart... (well, all parts of your heart are squishy, but you know what i mean.) So, I decided to pay homage to those first books that I was completely obsessed with while simultaneously testing my writing ability by creating the following little ditty. Ok, I didn’t create it as much as drag it, kicking and screaming, out of my cerebellum, and at 25 pages it is hardly a ditty. But, it’s my big, at times violent, detail-crazy baby. Gentle handing please.
This story was written in the format of a short story, which means that it was intended to be read in one sitting. If you gotta split it up then fine, but it’s much better when you take it in at once and absorb all the details. As explained in the Prelude, it is based on the story ‘The Black Gryphon’ by Mercedes Lacky, before the story takes place. The character Skandranon belongs to her, not me, and other tidbits that I put in there also belong to her, as it is set in her environment of pre-Valdemar.
